Pride and Prejudice is a book which is easy to read and suitable for any one who is able to read it themselves.

The writer, Jane Austen, was herself the daughter of a minister of the Church of England and an observant christian.

She was also very concerned in her writings with principled behaviour.

Although not all of her characters are always well behaved, or correct in their behaviour, part of the challenge of a good novel is seeing how the characters resolve such matters.

Austen writes in a light style, which is easy to read, and the stories are interesting and enjoyable.

If you do enjoy novels with a little history, a little philosophy, a little romance, and a lot of character, you should like Pride and Prejudice very much indeed!

Best wishes :-)

I don't know what the rules are for your school, but it should be OK. Pride & Prejudice, like all Jane Austen, has no sex, no violence, and no foul language. It is a mild stretch for your age, because it is definitely written for adults. It is, in part, a very subtle study of the social customs and class ideas of that society - some of this you're sure to miss, but you should be able to follow the main story, which is wonderful.

It would probably be a difficult read, but I believe that the only way to grow is to challenge yourself. It's a wonderful story and definitely worth the effort. Just remember that it was written for adults in the 1800s, so it's not going to have the same language structure of books written today. If you're up to the challenge, though, I think you can do it.

This may sound like cheating but for your age I'll grant an exception. Know who Kiera Knightley is? Well she was in the movie Pride and Prejudice and I would say watch that first, and then read the book. It'll give you a visual representation first before reading it, and when you do read it, you can backtrack and think "oh yeah, this was when she was doing this which means..." When I was your age I read Oliver Twist and understood only half of it. I don't think it would hurt to watch the movie first. Besides, her co-star is cute ;)

I would not recommend this book for a 7th grader, though it has no mature themes in it with the old English language, I found it hard to read in 9th grade when I first read it. Wait a couple of years so you can get the full enjoyment of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy.

i think you'll understand the book. i read it in English, even though i didn't know the language that well and i understood the book. and i don't advise you to watch the keira knightley movie first because it's not worth it. reading the book first will be more interesting.
