Rich text format - it is a setting on Word when you save instead of saving as .doc you save as .rtf. I have had a lot of professors who asked you to save as .rtf when you e mailed them papers because it was easier for them to open. People who dont have word can open .rtf files too. Pax- C

it means Rich Text Format. This is a document format (file extension is .rtf) wherein you can use colors and font styles in your text document (usually referred to as "rich text").
