I don't know what you mean by 'relate' to, but know an author you could get addicted to. James Patterson. Give one of his books a try and I guarantee you willl enjoy it from start to finish.

Good book hunting...

How young is young? We won't necessarily know what to recommend... Young could be 30 or it could be 20, or anywhere around those ages, give or take up to 5 years... So it would really help us to know what to recommend for you!

Anyway, i would recommend:

Anything By Isobelle Carmody!

They are fantasy adventure stories, and the are really well planned out and just a lovely read all in all!

The Obernewtyn Chronicles:

Obernewtyn
The Farseekers
Ashling
The Keeping Place
(Two more coming... later this year, and early next)

The Legendsong Trilogy:

Darkfall
Darksong
(One more to come!)

She has also written some other series' and stand alone books, but i would recommend the Legendsong Trilogy first, and then Obernewtyn, but i guess that all depends on your taste!

His Dark Materials Trilogy by Philip Pullman:

Northern Lights(UK, Aus) The Golden Compass(USA)
The Subtle Knife
The Amber Spyglass

They are a truly great and fantastical read... They make you wonder about the truth of some things about this world, by showing you another...

The Golden Compass movie comes out in December this year!

I have always been a major reader. To this day I read at least 2 books a week. My favorite of all times is To Kill a Mockingbird. That is the best book I have ever read. Totally addicting. It really all depends on what you like. I used to be hooked on True Crime. If you like that stuff then anything by Ann Rule is great. But some of it is pretty gruesome. Go to the library. Check out a few different things t hat look good. If you don't like them, so what? They are free. I live at my library. I also love John Stienbeck. He wrote The Grapes of Wrath, Cannery Row as well as many others. I didn't think I would like it but I fell in love with his writing. As soon as you find a book you like, look up other books the author has written and read t hem all. Reading is great!!!! What a wonderful escape.

For a fun book that includes romance and a hint of the paranormal, you might try Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. Dark Hunters are immortal (used to be human) and have no soul - their job is to protect humans from Daimons and other creatures. You ought to check one out.

What about some historical fiction? Philippa Gregory has a few out. I really enjoyed The Other Boleyn Girl and The Virgin's Lover.

In the same genre, I've heard (though haven't read) Outlander by Diana Gabaldon and the rest of that series is very good.

A few others: The Lovely Bones and Lucky, both by Alice Sebold. The first has a 14 year old murder victim telling her story, and the second is the memoir of the author after being raped the last day of her freshman year of college.

It's my understanding, too, that Janet Evanovich is very good (Stephanie Plum series).

I am a lover of the classics (and also a stay at home mom) and I HIGHLY recommed for you to start with an easy one to read- it's by D.H. Lawrence and it's called Lady Chatterly's lover. It was banned for obscenity a long long time ago- but it's not obscene. It's extremely passionate and the way Lawrence wrote it- it will put you into the character's shoes.

I read fantasy epics because they're so addicting -- you stay with the same characters for many volumes. My favorite fantasy epic author is Robin Hobb. Also I like Jacqueline Carey.

See reviews and descriptions and suggestions at:

FantasyLiterature.net
There are pages for both of those authors and many more.

Have you tried Harry Potter? Definitely start with the first one, The Sorceror's Stone. They are easy to read, and so addicting! If you don't like that type of fiction, you might try Romance/Chick Lit (Jennifer Weiner, Carly Phillips, Jennifer Crusie).
