“The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel.”
"It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen."

That's why... two different books, yes, they both told me the same thing with their respective first lines.

Bio:
I am 32... married, sure overweight, work in NYC never read fiction until I was 23 (after I emt my wife), I am not into the cyberpunk dress, nor pseudo-attitudes posed by people in the sub-culture, I dont consider Rammstein cyberpunk. Etc, etc. I did many years ago in the age of BBS, modems and 2600 mag try to be a hacker. I miss it.

Answer:
Neuromancer; Wow, I can't put it down, I started reading it 2 days ago. You are transported through the book. In essence the book is a 'deck' we readers become cowboys... and girls... and we 'steal' a few moments of escape by reading.

Neuromancer. Because it is an incredible book - one of the gold standard books of the cyber punk movement. A great story - and the first line of the book is outrageous.

"The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel."

You have to be drawn into a book that opens like that. Pax - C
