Is Ayn Rand wrong in general?

2007-05-21 23:18:52 · 7 answers · asked by pomosimulacrum 2

My personal favorite is a tie between Rincewind the magician & Otto von Chriek the vampire photographer.

I like Rincewind since he's the first character I read about in the series. I find it funny how he's one of the few characters who not only recognize how dangerous a situation is, but tries to keep from getting into said situation, even though he fails.

I like Otto because he's just pretty darn cool. A vampire who is giving up blood & takes up photography to ignore his bloodlust?

If you haven't read these books, I heartily recommend them.

I'd really like to read something that doesn't spoon feed the plot. Preferrably horror. Any suggestions?

As I stated before, I am writing an essay on the book "The Chronicle of a Death Foretold" and I have selected the autopsy. I must explain how this passage is a significant passage that has major significance in terms of style, characterization, plot development or theme. Anything would be helpful, ANYTHING! I am in desperate need of help, thanks for anything!

think about this, snape made the unbreakable vow with draco's mother right? and Draco's objective is to kill dumbledore, draco failed and snape stepped in because he had to from the unbreakable vow. So he dumbledore had to be killed or snape will die(if you break the vow you will die)

next thing is what did it mean when dumbledore said "please..." before he was killed? Dumbledore by chance knew that snape made the unbreakable vow, so he had to be killed in order for snape to be free, dumbledore wants snape to be free and tells him to kill him. So snape had no choice but kill him.

if you want to comment about this go ahead.

I think that he is not dead. For one, the main thing that Snape kept trying to teach Harry the whole year at Hogwarts was to use spells without saying them. Snape being far advanced in this area could have easily said "Advada Kadaver" and actually preformed something entirely different. Another point is that if Snape had actually been performing the "Advada Kadaver" curse then Dumbledore would have died instantly and fell straight to the ground he would have not kept falling back until he fell of the edge.

so what do you think?

So, this is a little random, but I'm looking for fiction targeted for teenagers ("young adult") with characters that are described as atheists (don't believe in God) or even agnostist (won't say yes or no in relation towards religion). I suppose any sugesstions are helpful, as long as they are inthe fiction category. Thanks so much!

For class we had to write some dumb fable, and I can't think of a title. It's about an alligator who tries to impress another gator by changing his appearance/personality, and then realizes that he should just be himself and yada yada. Any suggestions?

I think Severus Snape is indeed evil. all the "Good" things people points out are just to gain trust and hide his true loyalty. Did anyone really expect to see Snape provide that he is evil through the series? I know far too many proof that he is evil.
1) only the bad guys killed people
2) JK Rowling is disapointed that many thinks he's good.
3) he taunted Harry, not teaching him at the end of HBP. It made no sense.
4) That twitch is a sign that his loyalty will now be for one side for good and that is on Voldemort's side.
5) "He could have taken Harry if he were evil." Think about it, he can't because of Dumbledore's protective spell.
6) Why stun Flitwick and not take down the barrier? Kind of a big clue to which loyalty he's on. Flitwick can take care of himself in battle for god sake, and with Order's help there is no need to worry and they can still protect Draco and his family.
7) Killing is never honorable, even if it was a "Plan". thsat is going to Voldemort's hands!
