For the people who say that JK Rowling doesn't want us to speculate, they are getting the wrong idea... She doesn't want the story to be revealed to readers before the release date... that's a real spoiler. Theorizing and speculating isn't a true spoiler because the answer is not necessarily THE answer.
Cedric Diggory, when hit by Avada Kedavra, was spread-eagled on the ground after being hit... that doesn't happen if someone simply crumples, so I think there is evidence that the Avada Kedavra does have an impact and repulsion force when used.
Nonverbal spells have been encouraged by Snape, but only when facing an enemy with whom you are dueling, so that the enemy cannot predict your spells. Snape had no reason to conceal the curse, knowing that Dumbledore couldn't block it.

Dumblebore is most definitely dead. If he was not dead then Snape would most certainly be. He made the unbreakable vow. Had Snape tricked them with another spell then he would have died instantly.
Sorry, no faked death for Dumbledore.

Well, it's Avada Kedavra, first of all. And second of all, J.K. Rowling confirmed in multiple interviews that Dumbledore is, in fact, dead.
I think since Dumbledore was such an incredibly powerful wizard, he didn't just flop to the ground like any ordinary victim of the curse -- instead, it sort of catapulted him into the air. I know, it weirded me out at first when I read it too, but it would've been weird too if the book said, "And then Dumbledore fell down and stopped breathing." I think J.K.R.'s way of his death was more fitting.
Also, I don't think Snape could really avoid killing him if he SAID the curse "Avada Kedavra," regardless of any unvocal or silent curses he was performing at the same time.
I know, sad, right? I can't wait for book seven!

The spell that Dumbledore put on Harry right before he died, that froze him preventing him from moving and speaking, was immediately broken once Snape put that curse on Dumbledore. That spell cannot be broken unless the person who put it in on Harry removes it. Once Harry was able to move about and speak it was clear that Dumbledore had died, in turn removing the spell from Harry. JK said it and no one wants it to be true, Dumbledore is gone, I'm sorry, but we all have to move on. 7/21/07!!!

Oh, I think he's dead all right. These past three books have been getting progressively sadder and sadder, and I believe that she would kill Dumbledore. My opinion of what's going to happen in the next book is that everyone Harry ever met in his life is going to die, including Harry (that is not based on anything except my anger at the turn these books have taken).
Also, it's Avada Kedavra, I think.

Sorry 2 tell u this I think he's dead. It set an erie tone to the theme to the next book and the J.K Rowling even said he was dead to teach the kids who read the book about death. I also think Harry Potter will die in the next book, that way, in many years nobody takes over the series and ruin its good name.

Check out JKR's website or mugglenet.com to read an interview with her in which she says both Sirius and Dumbledore are dead. Really dead. No jokes. No pulse. Sorry to be a killjoy.

He is dead. And not to be rude to your answerers, why would she write the books if we didn't have the right to speculate and draw our own conclusions of how we think the story may end? I have wrote books myself and I find it rather amusing for readers to tell me what they think may happen at the end of the series or at the beginning of the next book. And true, she may be tired of getting numerous amounts of fans asking her what will the end be like. But that's the price author's have to pay when they make a world wide best selling series.
