There are many things in book publishing that must be understood. I learned much from getting my book Integrity: Do You Have It? 2nd edition published. I have a web site www.myqualitywriting.com on which I offer a free download of my publishing journey.

Getting published today is easier than before with all the new technology. However, there are also things to watch for in choosing a publisher. There are those make promises that they do not deliver. There are also those who make promises that do deliver. The problem is choosing the one for the type of book that you would write. It is important to choose a publisher that has experience in your field.

I would also participate in writers forums such as www.writersweekly.com. You can ask the question and receive answers from other authors. There is a wealth of experience on this site. My free download also offers tips in reviewing publishing contracts and what to watch for before signing an agreement.

Orson Scott Card, who is an accomplished author, has a lot of resources on his website about writers who want to be published, including a writer's workshop. I've linked it to the source. The manuscript seems to be the biggest part in selling your story to a publisher - if you want to sell your book, you must have a good manuscript.

Buy the book "Writer's Market", it goes over the basics of publishing and gives hundreds of pages of agents and publishers.

I would suggest building your resume while you write your book. Write something for a paper, magazine, a short story, collection of poems. Get your name out there.

Get a book called Writers Market. It will explain the process to you in great detail. What your chances would be depend on the material. The book will explain how to do it. Pax - C

Look for publishing agencies that are receiving manuscripts, but first you have to have the manuscript edited.
