Sometimes I try to find quotes from the book I need, ones that might not be repeated on many websites, and do a google search with quotation marks around it. If I'm searching for a specific Harry Potter book, for instance, I'll find a quote from one website, then do a search of the entire quote (making sure it's not a humorous one that might have been copied many times) such as:

"He watched, trying not to betray a flicker of surprise or alarm, as a portly man appeared within the flames"

The second hit is a full copy of the book. I own the books, and only use this as a resource to find specific quotes though, and don't encourage anyone to read entire books online.

Most textbook sites require money, unfortunately.

I dont really know of any site that lets you read textbooks online, but a site where you can buy/sell books really cheaply (a lot cheaper than any bookstores) is http://www.half.com

I dont know if you're willing to buy books at all, but the site is definitely worth checking out!
