In The Mirror

Chapter 1
My sides hurt from sucking in my stomach for an hour straight, and my cheeks stung from a false smile I had held for the duration of my interview. My mother sat beside me, and she still appeared more flawless than I was. I didn’t know at the time that sometimes having flaws is the only way people can tell that you’re human just like them. I was only concerned with living up to a future of lying to myself. So I sucked in my breathe a little more.
“So, Violetta, why do you want to do this modeling job?” Mrs. Sherman asked, her plump lips mimicking my forced smile exactly. My mother’s face slightly tilted, as if she were giving me a cue. My head pounded from trying to appear skinny and perfect, and the answers we had practiced for this inevitable question for hours on end had inconveniently disappeared.
I was sixteen years old, and this was my first interview for a modeling job. I had missed the other three most important things in my life to be here:

I have always loved writting novels, Now i have five manuscrips. I have tried contacting publishers but they ask for crazy amounts of money. I would love to publish all the five books one at a time.
Where do i start?
What can i do?.
Where can i get a realiable agent and How do i know am in safe hands?

We have a set of Bantam Classic editions in my school media center, but local parents might be scandalized by the doodled nudity included in this edition. I'm looking for something inexpensive, and so far the Enriched Classics (http://www.amazon.com/Candide-Enriched-Classics-Voltaire/dp/1416500308/ref=si3_rdr_bb_product/103-2269745-1045414) version looks good, but I'm afraid it has the same "naughty" pictures.

I've found myself re-reading a lot of my old books and would like to find something new. Some of the authors on my bookcase are Jeff Noon, Dennis Cooper, Charles Bukowski, William Gibson, Jack Kerouac, Haruki Murakami.

Anyone have a good book they think I might like?

Feel free to suggest writers OF the era or writing ABOUT the era.

I've read (and loved) Mitchell's Gone With the Wind, Mark Twain, O. Henry. Dreiser's Sister Carrie didn't appeal to me much, neither did Sinclair's The Jungle.

I'm doing this because after months of extensively studying American history, I'm eager to experience it vicariously.

So im picky and have a hard time finding a good book...some of my faves are Timeline, Diclosure, Demons and Angels, Brave New World, ... i love conspiracies and somewhat philosophical books...anyone know anything else I would enjoy

and plz...no romance or weird other planet scifi with aliens...

- Is that during the 1960s?

- It has to be in the 1960s b/c that's what we're learning about in my College American History class
- No less than 200 pages
- "college" level reading - just like not a dumb kid book

I'm writing a book and I'm having troube finding a good name for my main character. I have a name and I'm continuing writing the book, but I'm getting annoyed at the wierd name, Ebony.... o_O yes, quite a bit wierd. but there are alot of kids at my school and I feel very wierd using a name from school... so any ideas for this? or any unique but good names?

Also, what do you think of Sage as a boy's name?
yes I know It's a flower and was a joke in a book I've recently read, but I find the name Sage a bit cool sounding.
