I like cruel/sarcastic type books mainly. And they have to be witty.

Here are some I like....so I don't need to know about the below authors as I have explored all avenues.

All Michel Houllebecq books

Some Hope by Edward St Aubyn

Mothers Milk by Edward St Aubyn

A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole

American Psycho by Brett Easton Ellis

Most if not all Eveyln Waugh books

They say the ice will hold
so there I go,
forced to believe them by my act of trusting people,
stepping out on it,

and naturally it gaps open
and I, forced to carry on coolly
by my act of being imperturbable,
slide erectly into the water wearing my captain's helmet,
waving to the shore with a sad smile,
"Goodbye my darlings, goodbye dear one,"
as the ice meets again over my head with a click.

IF this is not an extended metaphor, then what is it? Is it imagery?

I just finished reading "The Lady, or the Tiger" for english class, and the ending left you hanging.
The author came out with two sequels, "His Wife's Deceased Sister," and "The Discourager of Hesitancy." If any of you has read either/both of those, could you tell me a little bit about it/them?
I'm just pretty interested to find out what happens.

thanks I really appreciate your help because I could not find anywhere good with Langston Hughes poems. Also if you just know of any of his good poems I would really appreciate if you could list them. Thank you everyone for your help :)

Man was born to love, though often he has sought like Icarus to fly too high, and far too lonley than he ought. To kiss the sun of East and West, and hold the world at his behest. To hold the terrible power to whom only gods are blessed, but me, I am just a man. (dont try googling it, its not online ANYWHERE!, need for an eng. assign.)

I mean like Comedy, Romance, Sci-Fi, Adventure. Which type is your favorite to read? The type that you can't put down and it catches your eyes from page one.

I'm writting a book, and I want to get it published. I've searched all over the internet, but I can't find how to publish a book by scholastic, or any other publishing companies. I just want to know where to send it so they can read it and see if they like it.
And I don't want to self-publish.

But every time I try to, I can never finish! I just keep getting new ideas for stories, so I am left with dozens of half-finished novels! I love, love, love, love, love to write, but it is just so weird! I tried planning; my friend even suggested diagrams (which I HATE.) I just want to be able to hold up a finished story that I'm proud of, that's all.

I'm suppose to be telling an improvised story on Rucker Blakslee in Cold Sassy Tree. I need a funny topic to tell and I'm a made up character named Cara Beauman. This person is a young female, probably in her late 20s and used to live in Cold Sassy when she was younger. Any ideas? Help! Please!

I just want them to be interesting. Length really isnt the issue. I have read Jane Austen, Oscar Wilde, Agatha Christie and sir A.C.Doyle, Dan Brown, L.M. Alcott, Hashek, Orhan Pamouk, Elizabeth Kostova, Philip Roth... so please dont mention any of those. Some Russian classics-again:intersting!- to start with would be great, so that I dont end up hating everything that has anything to do with Russia altogether!
Thank you!
