The saddest thing I have ever been through is going through what I am right now. My grandmother is not well. We think it's Alzhzeimer's but don't know for sure yet. My family is very close with her and I don't know how to cope. The sad part is she never and I'mnot exagerating gets sick and this hit hard and fast. She is a wonderful and very independent person whom everyone seems to love. Even the people at the hospital loved her.

I think the saddest book I ever read was Love Story by Erich Segal. I still cry when I hear "love means never having to say you're sorry." Pax - C.

Two of the saddest movies I have ever seen are "The Man in the Moon" (the 1991 movie with Sam waterston & Reese Witherspoon) and "Bridge to Teribithia."

Both concern the death of someone irreplaceable.

here goes (this the condensed version):

a man was in a store a few days before christmas and he was thinking how it was more trouble than joy to celebrate christmas, what with all of the last minute shopping.

as he was walking down the aisle, he overheard an older woman telling her grandson, "no dear, we don't have enough money to buy it." the boy was holding as small doll. the grandmother left, by the little boy stayed where he was in the toy aisle.

the man walked up with him and asked why he wanted the doll. the little boy answered, "my little sister went to heaven yesterday. my mommy is very, very sick, and daddy says that she's going to go to heaven soon too." the man felt it heart stop. "my sister wanted this doll for christmas, so i wanted to get it so my mommy could take it to her in heaven." the man's eyes began to fill with tears. the boy continued, "i wanted to got mommy a white rose too because they're her favourites, but grandma says that we don't have enough money."

the man was momentarily at a loss for words. then, smiling, he asked if he could count the little boy's money just to check. he slipped a few of his own bills in, and he declared that the little boy had enough money after all.

"i'm so glad that my sister will be able to get the doll that she wanted for christmas!" he ran off brimming with excitement to find his grandmother and pick out a rose.

later that evening, the man was reading an article in his paper where a woman and her small daughter had been in a car crash with a drunk driver. the girl had died before they reached the hospital and the mother was in a critical condition. he knew that this must be the family of the little boy.

two days later, on christmas eve, the mother's obituary was in the paper. the man began to cry and silently prayed for the little boy and his family.

it made the man stop and think that maybe this christmas would be different, that maybe he could detach himself and his family away from the commercialism of the world and get back to the simple spirit of love and giving and spending a joyful time with his family.

he prayed again and thanked God for his encounter with the boy who brought him back to the real meaning of love.

i cried for thirty minuted when i read this story. it's sad, but it's also inspiring.
