It might be considered a metaphor in which Kilmer suggests that the world is God's poem... one that far surpasses his own verse.
In a way, the poem is almost ironic. Kilmer expounds at length of the beauty of even a single tree, not just in appearance but also in how it lives and interacts with the vaster beauty of nature. Because his verse is so elegant, we can see through it a greater elegance that he sees.
And just as Kilmer knows himself to be the author of his own beautiful poems, so too he wants to credit the author of that greater beauty. Or, as Kilmer says:
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

Trees are beautiful and has many usage in our life; it gives us oxygen, beauty to the nature, and helps the soil not to erode. It is considered as one of our natural resources. We have to take care of it because it needs an utmost caring to grow a sturdy one. While poems can be made easily by men, strong trees are made by God's grace and mercy to protect us and give us life and beauty.
