Yup, I have the book, "Scarlett." It's crazy because in some ways I don't like what happens, yet in other ways, it's the ending everyone wants. You have to be careful with sequels because they can mess up the original version in your mind a little. That's what happened when people read the sequel to "Rebecca" which was called "Mrs. DeWinter."

"Scarlett" is written by a different author, so in a way that's good, because if you don't like what happens in the sequel, you can just dismiss it like, "Oh what does she know, she didn't even create Scarlett in the first place." : )

In an interview, the original author said that she didn't believe Rhett would ever go back to Scarlett. Also, in the movie, they included that final part where she regains hope and says that she can win Rhett back and go to Tara..... In the novel, that part didn't happen the same way. I like the film ending better because I think we all love Scarlett by then despite her flaws and hope to see her happy.

Well, I suggest you buy the sequel and see what type of ending the second author chose for Scarlett. I doubt a movie sequel will ever be released unless it's yeeeaarrss from now, when most of the older individuals who saw it in theaters & have the strongest attachment to the original story, have passed on. Younger generations who viewed the movie much later on DVD or television may be more receptive to a new Scarlett.

I really enjoyed Scarlett (the book), which was a little modernized but still very well researched as far as the social and cultural details of the period. Alexandra Ripley gives a lot of good, dramatic twists to the story, although the beginning is kind of slow and dark. This was necessary, though, because Scarlett needs to get past the grieving before she can get on with her adventures. Don't watch the made-for-tv movie based on Scarlett, though; it's an absolute abomination. They changed so much of the story that Scarlett becomes a victim instead of a heroine. I've tried to block it out.

There has already been a sequel. Alexandra RIpley published "Scarlett" fifteen years ago. And it was also made into a movie. Not as a good as the orgiginal but it was ok.

A sequel has been written, and it flopped. Sometimes perfection needs to be left alone.
