Write every day. Keep an idea journal handy b/c you never know when an idea will strike.

Read like a writer. Note the things YOU like in other people's writing. Try them out in your writing.

For better dialogue, listen to the way people really talk, and imitate some of the things they say.

Of course, follow the rule, "Show, don't tell."

Try to write a hundred words every day. It doesn't sound like much, but it adds up over a year.

An easy writing exercise to help you improve: Pick up a book you like and copy the first three pages by hand. You'll see every bit of character development and how the scene description was handled and the beginnings of the plot. Apply what you learn to your own work.

Im a really big fan of books like Anna Karenina and Jayne Eyre... Both Leo Tolstoy and Charllote Bronte are amazing authors....very great book and you can get many great ideas from those books or any classics.

Just keep writing and experimenting. Find your niche, and don't worry about the guy who is published before you.

Chances are, by the time you get to where that guy is, he'll be long gone.
