As cliche as it sounds, Poe is still my favorite poet by far. The man was a genius. (Quite possibly stark raving mad and a drug addict, but a genius nevertheless.)

without stating the obvious that william shakespeare was a genius, my other favourite poet is Charlotte Bronte. If you are looking at poetry then I would recommend you watching the dvd "Dead Poet's Society" with Robin Williams. It is an old dvd but it has some really terrific poetry in it

I like Christina Rossetti's Goblin Market, Songs of Innocence and Experience by William Blake, and if you want something really different try this anthology Unsettling America: An Anthology of Contemporary Mutlicultural Poetry. It's free verse poetry, nothing about flowers! lol very very different from what people think of when they traditionally think poetry

Poe definitely rocks. I am also a big fan of Emily Dickinson. Some of the English poets, too, such as John Keates, William Wordsworth and the Brownings (Robert and Elizabeth / husband and wife).

WIlliam Butler Yeats is my poet of choice: wonderful stuff about life in general. His poems echo in your ear long after the book is shut!
