Books & Authors - March 2007

I am a college student, and I do not plan to be a professional author, but I have been writing a book over the last couple of years and I really do believe it is a great book. If I get it published is their any way my book can be a "big hit" if I am not a well known writer or have other great books under my belt?

I remember reading this when I was little, it was about kids who were naming animals, "If I had a ____, I'd name it ____." At the end, they say "But we have a turtle and we named him Fred." I loved this book, but I can't remember the name/author. Anyone remember?

I am did this book about my life. Every one told me to publish it but I don’t know, for me I don’t like reading about peoples life so I don’t think people like reading about my life.

The book talks about me "born in Palestine" it talks about the things I have seem 'blood, died people, my uncles getting killed in front of me and how I moved to the US and got to understand Americans better and how 9/11 changed how people see and as a Muslim. Also how me and this girl that I meet start be friends and how my mom and dad and her mom and dad did not approve cuss she’s Israeli and I am from Palestine...and so on.


So.... what should I do?? Is it something u would read?

Be truthful but at the same time nice lol.

I'm very new to writing poetry, writing stories is more my style but it's for a class and this is the second poem I've ever written. Here it is:


The sun shines warm on my skin
It is morning and I don't want to be in
The outside world calls to me
through the window I hear its plea
It says lets go play and have some fun
your chores will still be there when we're done
I smile and think mom wil never know
she is busy and talking on the phone
Maybe, just maybe she will not see
If I leave and let the bed just be.
My toys can wait awhile
mom knows thats just my style
I cannot wait a moment longer
I don't want to be bored and somber
And so I sneak right out the door
to play and have fun forever more.

Soft and Sweet
it makes me smile.
I pull back and stare awhile.
My chest goes up and down.
My chest goes in and out.
I lean in once more to lightly touch mouth to mouth.
Shy now, I look away
fumbling for something to say.
But words are not forthcoming
so I stay back and say nothing.


I have to write poetry for my Creative Writing class but I've never done it before. I write stories and I'd just really like some feedback.

I have down already the title...The Sahire Trilogy: Part One - The Journey. I am a respectable writer, so I am not begging for help. Just suggestions...the story is fantasy, about a young man who discovers he can control sahire (a special type of magic) and goes on a quest to discover himself and reach the fair city of Saime-Enora...with a powerful old man.

I need suggestions on new books to read, new authors to try. Okay, my favorite authors are:

Mary Higgins Clark
Nicholas Sparks
Jodi Picoult

I like a variety of books, but not most of your average fiction crime thrillers. I like romantic stories, but not trashy romance novels. I like history and historical fiction, some travel stories, biographies and autobiographies of famous people (depending on who). Fiction based on true stories.

On the other hand I like young adult novels too, the likes of Harry Potter, Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, Little House on the Prairie, Tom Sawyer & Huck Finn, stuff like that.

One of my favorite books is The Stand, by Stephen King, though I don't like anything else of his, because I don't like horror. I have also read things like Sherlock Holmes, and all the Lord of the Rings books. So you can see, my likes are varied.

Any suggestions??? Thanks.
