Well, a good travel novel that I'm reading right now is Travels with Charlie by John Steinbeck. Essentially a journal of his travels around the United States with his dog in a camper truck, it really provides some insight into what it was like in different parts of the country in the 1960s. It's not a difficult read, and the story is crafted in such a way that you go from one event or observation to the next without feeling jarred out of the story.

Garlic and sapphires by Ruth Reichl.

Any Janet Evanovich book is great. A Monk Simming by Malachy McCourt is really good too.

If you like heartwarming, wholesome stories, try "Shadow of the Lion" by Ruthie Jorgensen. You can read excerpts from it on iuniverse.com. Check it out. I know the author, she's a great gal.
