I read this book a looong time ago. Im gonna guess around 5th grade. I barely remember anything of it except a few very random and unrelated facts. I know it was on our summer reading list so Im hoping its somewhat well known with people who teach that grade level.

Anyway, all I remember is that at the beginning there is a girl and her siblings. Im pretty sure its raining and a man comes to the door. I know at some point she wakes up in a cave (i think) and theres these creatures/monsters that are blind and she thinks they are evil but I think they were actually good. I also remember a point in the book where there was a town but it was very communistic. All the houses looked the same and children bounced the same ball the same number of times. I also recall the antagonist of the book being a brain.

I know that sounds really random but I hope someone can know what Im talking about. Im worried its so random even those who have read it wont realize it. Anyway, thanks for the help.

ok I'm looking for 2 series of books but can't remember the titles. In the first one, there's a girl & her brother & she can do land magic & her bro can do stuff in the water, like talk to the animals & stuff. I'm pretty sure I remember reading a couple sequels, but I do remember them going to some other dimension that looked like their own but there were these shiny talking walking blue balls that named themselves, they had to battle a tree to close the portal, on top of a hospital there was some sort of evil helicopter, when they went into an office building(this whole dimension looked like a trash-hole version of where they live) there was some ugly secretary & monster ceo guy but they had to get a paper from his office & the girl had to face some book eating monster in an abandoned train terminal. I faintly remember the boy in another book doing something w/ dolphins to help clean up the sewage that was wrecking the harbour by their city, & them having to go help a hurt dolphin....

I was wondering if anyone knew how long, on average, paperback versions of new novels take to arrive at stores (after the release of the hardback ones.) Example: I want to purchase a book, the hardback is released early February...but I want to save money and wait for the paperback version (albeit it'll probably be months after.)
Or does it vary by publisher? Thanks!

What works of sci-fi include hyperspace "pockets", kind of like the ones on your jeans but hidden in a piece of jewelry or some other personal item, like a ring where you push down on the jewel and a spacetime rift opens up....and you pull out a cigar box, take out a stogie, close the box, and put it back in your ring?

Anything like that? Where can I find it?

I do not understand the end at all....

He describes how after the thunderstorm he “languidly” watched his son pull on his swim suit with no thought of going into the lake himself: “I watched him, his hard little body, skinny and bare, saw him wince slightly as he pulled up around his vitals the small, soggy, icy garment. As he buckled the swollen belt, suddenly my groin felt the chill of death” (202).

What happened?

For me it would have to be Tuesdays With Morrie, by Mitch Albom. I would have loved to meet Morrie. What an amazing view on life, death, and everything inbetween.

And Mitch Albom has an amazing way with words. He describes everything so vividly, it's like you're there, lurking in the corner.

Amazing book.
