The Giver by Lois Lowery -- ANYTHING by Lois Lowry!
If she's precocious enough for Twain, maybe Tolkien? Have her start with The Hobbit.

I definitely agree about Lois Lowry, starting with The Giver.
At 12 I was reading Tolkien, also the Narnia books were excellent, though I may have read them a little younger.
There's a book called Legend of the Sandhill Crane that's the first book I ever stayed up all night reading, it was excellent. There may be more by that author.
My 11 year old son is reading Eragon, and loves it.
He also loves the Lemony Snickett books, which are silly, but entertaining.

Charlotte's Web may seem a little young for her, but it's really well written.
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton.
Artemis Fowl
Harry Potter
Zack Files
then there's the old classics: Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys
check with your local library, they should have a list of books and authors for her age range.

I am 13 years old and I LOVE the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. She should also try the books by Tamora Pierce. Go to the websites to see if she might be interested.

Abarat by Clive Barker. It's this fantesy book about this girl named Candy. And The Wish is pretty good, too. The Wish is about a girl named Wilma who goes to a new school and gets humiliated and then has really low confidence. Hope she has fun!

I would strongly recommend the Shiloh Trilogy by Phylis Reynolds Naylor. The titles are Shiloh, Shiloh Season and Saving Shiloh, and any books by Beverly Cleary.
