The history you research and accept as truth is the farthest thing from the truth. Taaking a wild guess is just as accurate. All you have to do is wild guess better than the mercanary hstorians. When someone tell me to read more history I know he is in college or he collect history books from garage sales.

I recently got a contract from Tate publishing, and they want 4,000 dollars. I think its way too much, and I intend on leaving Tate and going somewhere else. What are the benefits of traditional publishing over self publishing? Would you advise me to self-publish or use a traditional publisher? If so, why?

death

Everybody dies
Theres no reason to be scared
It's happened for years

It's how you live life
Take a look in the mirror
And what do you see

Not about your cash
No use for it when you're dead
Just think about it

We are all equal
Death does not discriminate
No one gets a pass

All that matters then
Is how you handled your life
Thats the only thing

Just accept your fate
Because when your dead and gone
We are all just dust

I'm submitting a piece of work to a well known publishing house. They are only accepting submissions via email. The work is around 5000 words. Do I need to copyright this first before I send it? I just found out about this opportunity a couple day ago and I have something done. Should I wait and hope they don't find what they are looking for in the meantime? Like I said, it is a very well-know publishing house.

Even the hollow reed voices across sand, dry plains,
Startling lilt, notes we can remember.
We can forget. Forgetting is our salvation,
Not reincarnation.
When memory is destroyed, we are spared
Thorns, destiny.
No further life.
Peace be with you.
With you, Father.

To each the choice, known, unknown, of what the
Heart can render. Rending forever, keeping us
Worn, sworn to earth, dust.
Do not erect stones for me, they would keep me
Company. I did not have companionship in
Life, why plague the stones at sunset?
Cover me with thorns, as in life, one reed,
One drum. I clutch music of death,
No salvation, yet reincarnation.
You are in peace. Let me.
Remember me.
Remember.

Who would leave their bed of winter's night
To light dark's ice with wax candle?
Not you, priest...
Bound by law to the body, not soul's grief
Or expansion.
Bound to limit the soul in one direction.
Denial of reed and drum leads voices,
In canto, to ceilings.
Captured. Tonal.
Never twice on key.

To each a choice...thorn, dulled thorn.
Thorn nonetheless.
Vine. Rose.
What redemption after salvation?
Can salvation be redeemed?
Must it, should it, by who's hand...
Long the vine, short the rose.
Together...vining rose of headstones
Rendering hollowness in winter's
Dark ice.
For you who remember...
A candle.

Gentle historians,

Help me to understand this vexing situation of crossed swords, this battle of minds.

John N. posted question in the History Forum:

Before the 19th century, the United States had never seen it. What is it?

My response was Answer #1:

A baby born in 1801.

And you, distinguished reader, will understand: the 19th-Century began in 1801 – so BEFORE the 19th Century, no one in the United States had seen a baby born in 1801. In other words, from the beginning of time up to the 19th Century, no one in the US had seen a baby born in 1801.

Then this guy (we’ll call him Answer #5) offered his opinion:

remeber the 19th century is the 1800's .... so a baby in 1801 would not count

Am I not understanding his response?

Why doesn't the baby count? More specifically, why does Answerer #5 HATE BABIES? How can someone hate babies? They are so cute.

So who is the idiot – me or him? (No credit for the obvious answer that we’re both idiots.)

What would happen if Hitler would have used an Atomic Bomb?

During World War II, the United States introduced the Atomic Bomb and used it against Japan to end the war in the Pacific. Germany was actually very close to developing an Atomic Bomb also, but the Allies were able to invade Europe and defeat Germany before Hitler had the opportunity to use the bomb. If the Allies hadn't of gotten to Germany in time Where do you think Hitler would have dropped the A-Bomb if he would have had the time? How would it have changed World War II? How might it have changed the world today?

Why do so many people think there's nothing wrong with downloading electronic versions of brand new books for from from the 'net, when they know it would be wrong to walk into a bookstore and steal the same book?

Is it because there's no "material"--no paper or cover or ink, nothing to take up space on their bookshelves? Or is it a sense that everything online should be free? Or some distorted sense of entitlement ("If I want it, it must be provided to me at no cost")?

I want to be a writer/author. Yes, I do realize that a course dedicated to extensive writing might make more sense, but there's a lot of rudimentary pieces that can be picked up from in depth reading and analysis, as well. So in your opinion which do you think is the wisest choice, studying creative writing or literature?
Any other comments, or personal accounts of dealing with this are welcome.
Thanks for all your answers :) <3
