I think the main purpose of life is to shape ourselves of what we want to become, despite of the dangerous surroundings and obstacles.

In your opinion, what is the purpose of life?

The purpose of HUMAN life is self realization and not sense enjoyment to the fullest extent. That anyway, all others do even a small ant, the earth worms, cats & dogs etc.

Eating, sleeping, mating and defending are animal propensity that we humans also posses.

In human life you can do sacrifice, penance, austerity that great sages has taught us from time to time , by which we liberate our meterial bondage.

We are sleeping under MAYA(illusion and ignorance) but at any moment this life can be taken away. In every second so many living entities are dieing and we the foolish ones are thinking we are doing fine. This is mine, I am such and such, I have so much money, etc etc.

In short, please take proper shelter to higher knowledge and make your life meaningful.

Taja b, you are speaking of self-actualization as the main goal of life (look at Abraham Maslow's theory). I think you're on the right track, but I'll try a different perspective. We're the only animals on the planet who know they're going to die someday. Our consciousness makes us place qualifiers like "good" or "bad" onto all of our experiences. Because of this one distinction, the purpose of life is to use the full extent of our consciousness to fully appreciate life.

In other words, unlike most people who use the conventional wisdom that living is "doing" like travel, I also think that reflection and recording events and discussing issues with other people is equally important. There's no living if you don't stop and think about what you're doing. Otherwise you run around and don't really let life sink in.

That kind of idea will only get one another birth in the material world. The actual purpose of life is to realize our Constitutional position (Highest self) - FOr example-We are not this material body, IE; Race, color, nationality, Religion, mind, intellect, senses, job, etc. We are all eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. We never die, only this mortal body dies. This material world is not our real home, it is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery, only one fourth of the souls come here, and the rest are enjoying blissful eternal loving relationships with our Maker named above. We fell here due to envying Gods position. He made the material world for those who want to try to live separately from Him (Which is impossible because He is actually everywhere). After many lifetimes of trying to be happy in this temporary world one becomes frustrated and board and begins to question their existence. We then seek out real happiness, and when one becomes sincere God reveals how to come back Home. Those who are intelligent, take up the process of self realization (Bhakti Yoga) which begins with the chanting of the Maha Mantra (the great mantra for deliverance from all suffering and illusion), which gives one real peace, happiness and reality. Then at the end of life they can give up all material attachments and fully surrender to God and return to the eternal Kingdom, where there is no more birth, death, old age, or disease and be eternally happy. For info go to harekrishnatemple.com Read Bhagavda Gita as it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada. I am so glad I know now.

There is no purpose in life. We are simply organisms that are born, live and die. Does a mosquito have a purpose? or an ameba? we are life forms just like them. there is no theme to life, we cant assign a meaning to it. we just ARE. accept it and live life for you while you can. when it's over its over. What matters is NOW. make the best of it.

I feel the purpose of life is to help others, that's what I think I was put on Earth to do. That's the big picture; also, we were put here to laugh, smile, spread happiness to everyone we know and just live it to the fullest!

This may sound cliche' but turn to your bible.I'm not saying that religion is the purpose of life....but think about it.If you want to know why you were CREATED, why not turn to your bible which is how OUR CREATOR tells us his thoughts? I know that their are many false religions out there....but there is ONE true religion.Jehovah's Witnesses have found the answer to the question "what is the purpose of life", and they try to share it with others. Many dont care what the purpose of life is.But you seem like you do. If you're honestly interested in finding your true purpose in life...well, Jehovah's Witnesses are never too hard to find. Find out what they have to say, and see how much sense it truly makes.=)
