There are thousands of good books, and so far everyone has quoted some amazing authors and books, but as with everything its always subjective to tastes.
Since you are home with your new baby, why not help out some of the amazing lesser known writers... I think Nora Roberts can spare the odd reader or two from her mix.
If romance is your bag, check out as one suggested romance writers org and look for the new authors. They also have a romance with crime/mystery endge branch now. Again, check out some newly published authors. There are some wonderful books there that never get the shelf space that the block buster writers get anymore, yet some turn out to be better writers than those.
Either way, I say if you get enjoyment out of it, it was a great book!

Gone With The Wind is romance and drama! I love that book, it's long, but it will keep you entertained for sometime. Maybe you would like to have a laugh since you are stressed out? Try Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. Hilarious! Start with "One for the Money" then continue the series from there. I just started reading them about 2 weeks ago and about to finish "High Five". Fast reads, entertaining to boot!
Happy reading!

Well - Nora Roberts is famous for her romance novels. She also writes romance/thrillers under the name "J.D. Robb" They are quite good. She'll leave you with at least 100 books.
James Patterson has a romance/thriller "Honeymoon". Entertaining. He also has "Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas" which is a touching book.
Mary Higgins Clark wrote "Mount Vernon Love Stories" if you are interested in historical romances.
Or if you wanted to browse for yourself at home try Romance Writers of America website. In one particular section they list the bestselling romance books of 2007.

My advice is to pick a collection of essays or short stories. My experience with babies is that there is never a long enough break for full length books!
I think that this Years Best American Short Stories was edited by Stephen King. That might be a place to start!
Congratulations by the way!

Any Dan Brown novel will really be a good investment.
Da Vinci Code
Angels & Demons
Digital Fortress
Deception Point
They're all so well written & very 'edge of your seat'
I also recommend 'A Farewell to Arms' by Ernest Hemingway
Good luck & Congradulations on the baby! = ]

Danielle Steele has a lot of good choices. She along with Nora Roberts, Debbie Macomber, Jude Devereaux and Diana Palmer are among small handful of romance novelists who put forth any class in their writings.

I've tried romances, and they make me want to gouge my eyes out. All heavy breathing and sex. No story.
With that said, you might want to try a Dean Koontz. He has "horror" "thrillers" but they are very female accessable, as they always have happy endings. I put the terms in quotes before because I find it hard to have a thriller without danger.
You might consider CHristine Feehan, my Wife kinda' likes them. STEER CLEAR OF SHERRILYN KENYON! Just creepy explorations of her leather and tatoo bad boy fetish. DULL and Creepy!!!!!
As for drama, hmm, don't read any of those either. You might consider a urban fantasy, like the Dresden books by Jim Butcher (just stay clear of Laurell K. Hamilton, since her urban fantasies are just faerie porn).
