This is a part of one of the horrible glurgy chain letters i got in my inbox today....

"n the Pacific side of the memorial, a group of us gathered to read the words President Roosevelt used to announce the attack on Pearl Harbor :

Yesterday, December 7,
1941-- a date which will live in infamy--the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked.

One elderly woman read the words aloud:

"With confidence in our armed forces, with the abounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph."

But as she read, she was suddenly turned angry. "Wait a minute," she said, "they left out the end of the quote.. They left out the most important part. Roosevelt ended the message with "so help us God."

What is the straight dope on the quote i question on this memorial? This is obviously a crappy emotional appeal, but I would like the details so I can knowledeably debunk it.

We devalue the lives of others, especially if they have fallen on hard times (homeless, jobless). We devalue the importance of people that we have known for a long time (husband, wife, friends). We devalue things that we have had for a relativley long time. We devalue the ideas and customs of old (philosophy, art, science). Sooner or later we will have devalued most things in our lives, they will take a place of lesser import to us than the newer thing.

Why do we devalue things in life?

Please explain your reasonings.

Thanks.

And I'm referring to anything; short story, poetry, ect.
Did you ever have any of your work published in any type of magazine?
How much money do they typically offer? [um, I know this can vary]
When you finally got a response in the mail, what exciting things were said in your letter to let you know your work was wanted?
[just curious :-) ; sounds exciting]

It is a little sketchy, just a draft... but it's the story of my first love.

As we emerged from under water,
which was oh so warm,
You caressed me gently,
“Forever yours,” you swore.

I gazed into you sapphire eyes,
My heart beating with lust,
You and I were all that mattered,
The entire world was us.

You kissed my lips so softly,
The lake consuming us,
I wrapped myself around you,
Perfect bliss and trust.

I only had eyes for you,
And I was all you saw,
No matter what life threw at us,
It could never close our door.

I’d die for you and you for me,
As we swam around together,
Locked in everlasting love,
This love could not be severed.

As years went by you came and went,
But our bond was everlasting,
Each time we spoke or just locked eyes,
We knew this feeling was not passing.

I was your first and you were mine,
We were each others only,
Until the day we drifted apart,
Since then I’ve been so lonely.

I just bought the Nikon D80 and am looking at the photos I took with it on my computer. My focal subject is really crisp, but everything in the background looks really abstract. Almost like it is painted. Any tips or suggestions as to why this is happening?

My friend is in LA, the classic waitor/actor. He does Central Casting a few times a week; nonspeaking roles. He wants to do more, so would it be worth the money to get an agent?
(In other words, do agents that work for undiscovered people just take your money or do they actually work for you?)

Realistically, hearts are sort of in the shape of a balled up fist. But whats the story behind the way we draw hearts for love letters, valentines day cards, etc. nowadays?

I'm asking because I found this on Jo's homepage, in Rumours:

CROOKSHANKS IS AN ANIMAGUS
18/02/04
No, he’s not, but he’s not pure cat either. If you but Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them … you might just be able to work out what Crookshanks really is.

I have FBaWtFT, but I can't figure it out...

Well, I've been drawing for a while, and I'm trapped trying to draw a character for my comic book series. Unfortunately, I keep drawing him slightly off angle and deformed. I find myself throwing away paper again and again. The character is Squee, and before you ask, this is an SLG publishing...or it will be in a few years.

Anyways, since I've started trying to draw him, I've been having problems...can someone help me?

Only in our dreams
it seems
sometimes,
the one we plead
Is not the one
we truly seek
but, think
they're all we need...
