A small landscaping company owns a van that they use for travelling between job sites, & hires contract workers by the hour to do the labour. Sometimes they ask the workers to drive the van, on one such occassion one of the workers had a small accident with the van, causing damage. The owners of the company & van are choosing not to claim damages with their insurance company to avoid an increase in rate.
The owners expect the contract worker to fully pay for the repairs, which is $2000 in total. She is making $12/hour at this job. Is this fair? Who is responsible, the driver or the owner of the van & company or both?

One of Jameson’s complaints against postmodernism is that we have lost the capacity to retain our own past (Jameson 125). How does this apply in the light of Coover's "The Universal Baseball Association"?.

September the 11th 2001 was a tragic day. It was also a glorious day for anyone looking to cease a great deal of power and control. Regardless of who was responsible it is not debatable that it gave more power and control to the government than any time in prior history. In fact the constitution was blatantly disregarded from that point on.

"The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government - lest it come to dominate our lives and interests."
- Patrick Henry

We also know that the events of that day did not unfold the way we were told. Dose this mean the people who brought us the omissions and distortion were involved? No, it simply means that it was covered up or concealed for some reason.

Will the truth every come out? “When good people in any country cease their vigilance and struggle, then evil men prevail.”
Pearl S. Buck

“Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.”
Wendell Phillips

Wholesome healthy songs from John Denver and Karen Carpenter are dumped and negativity is praised.Punk rock is lauded when no one even knows a song by the Sexpistols.Must we be aggressive and always shout out negatively get off of my cloud.Or that song that says you are hurting me.What is wrong with saying summer breeze makes me feel fine instead of You hurt me and I will hurt you back.

I confess that I have not read Helene Hanff`s Charing Cross Road saga but I cannot help but think that the film was an unforgiveable travesty.

Doesn`t Anthony Hopkins get tired of playing Aryans who stand idly by whilst Jews suffer in hospital without medical assistance or out of hospital without medical assistance? Is he is saying that postNazi society has institutionalized medical antiSemitism, let him come out and say so.

This is not the London purported by Hanff and/or the basis of her affection for `what England has given to the world`. This is a nasty antiSemitic Jew/gentile Hollywood rendition of Englishness which exists only in those whom Hollywood edifies (white trash)

I also found this misrepresentation in `To Sir With Love`. Poitiers` character in the book falls for Gillian, who, in the film, plays the character like a strumpet. In the book she was an exquisite Jewess whose rejection derives of race. Lulu is also miscast, as in the book she`d be Moira Joseph.

I love philosophy, as a subject, as an expressive art, as a whole. I personally find the fields of existentialism and phenomenology fascinating, as well as linguistic theory and how it allows for thought and varying degrees of communication. Heidegger and Foucault are my favorites. I love the totally unique and interdisciplinary approach that they take with their writing. Also, the more of their works I read, the more of my own beliefs I seem to be revealing to myself as already thought, printed, and published. what an amazing, enlightening experience!
I also like the many other modern/postmodern authors, like Sarte, DeBeauvois, Mearleau-Ponty, Lacan, Kierkegaard, Husserl, Nietzche, and Derrida.

So what is your favorite philosophy (or who is your favorite philosopher) and why?

ps. I'm not asking for judgements or critiques of morality, relevance, quality or significance; only comments concerning the nature of the philosophy and its influence in your life.
