Do you think she might have meant 'home made presents' - the dishes you used to make and take along ?! She probably really liked them. It sounds like she may be an Aspie (Asperger Syndrome) and she talks in black and white and does not get her true meaning across and it looks like she is prepared for a fight all the time. I have extended family members like that. My husband and son are mild Aspies, however I have been able to help them with their social interaction skills. It's an impossibility with my brothers wife though, she is really defensive and see any other people other than her family of origin, as enemies or someone to compete with. Whatever other people say to her gets twisted by her to mean something negative that you did not intend and everything you do or say is 'read into' with a paranoid attitude. Even though one can bend over backwards to try and get to know her and have a positive happy relationship, you just never get anywhere. She even threw a brand new children's book (signed by the author on the title page, she was signing in-store when we bought it) that we bought as a Christmas present, in the bin and told my mum that it was second hand and someone had scribbled in it. That was the last straw. We no longer attend extended family events were she will be and have stopped trying to invite her out as she always used to get there late and leave early or never attend right from when my brother first started going out with her. She obviously has a secondary mental health problem as she received no therapy as a child for her Aspergers. Even her (unidentical) twin sister said she is antisocial. I can vaguely remember the "great potato salad war" but not the details. You'll need to remind me.

You don't need a poem. Just say that you don't want presents. Their present to you is them coming you the party.

Let me have the pleasure of being with YOU,
Even though hours may be few,
On my __nd/rd/th Birthday,
Since no presents will be expected any way...
YOUR PRESENCE is THE PRESENT of this Day.
Once again, come to my party leaving all your work away.
