That's because it is not a "joke", but the source of where we come from, Who created us, and where we are going. You don't "get it", because you don't "read" it. Perhaps if you did, you'd regard it with more respect than an "old book."

Bible Language
Even though the Bible is translated into our language, it is a mystical book. It is not meant to be an open book, everybody can understand. The Bible is full of symbols, which we often misunderstand.
When we learn the meaning of the symbols and how they were used in the time the text was written, we would marvel about the meaning it holds! It contains all the spiritual secrets of humanity! It mentions all our 13 main and holy energy fields, among them the Spirit gate, the aura and kundalini, our life energy.
The holy knowledge was symbolized to keep it from misuse and abuse of the uninitiated. Then the symvbols were forgotten and today much of the symbolic text is taken as literal text and vice versa. Then, of course, the Bible may not make the sense it holds.
I love Revelation because I found out some of its meanings, it is awesome!
Thanks for asking.

Because it was not written by one individual man. it was written over a period of periods, by people from all walks of life, shepards, priests, kings, poets, prophets, a tax collector, a leayherworker, and some fishermen.
Nor was it written in one particular language.
The story has not changed along the way. and since its opening page, the story has always been about the relationship between God, men, and humanity as well as beast and creature.
Was not even taken place in one particular place, but in diverse places.
And today, as was then, it is one of the most widely read books on the face of this planet. It has inspired the faith of billions in every country in this place.
And I love it...... It's instruction as some have come to call it a "love letter", is greater than any self-help book you can read. Ecclesiastes says it best: "There is nothing new under the sun." The life of man has not changed as he is born to learn the lessons of life from the day he takes his first step in this world to the day he returns home from whence he came.
