Unless they tell you to, you never look into the camera except when you slate your name. When you are really filming something they CUT the tape if you look at the camera lens. You can look at the casting people, but you don't usually make them the focus of anything because that may make them feel uncomfortable. If someone is reading the scene with you, you may absolutely focus on them. Remember to be mindful of your lighting situation though. Always find your light :-)

you never really look at the casting directors even when you're auditioning for a play...they tell you to pick a spot on the wall behind where the casting directors are sitting. but camera acting is different...so yes, when you're auditioning for a film or a TV show you look into the camera. but you don't STARE at it throughout your whole monologue....like when you're doing the slate, you have to look directly into the camera and then after that you can start 'acting'. good luck.

Well, it is recommended you look at the camera, but dont focus on the camera. The point is the camera is your audience so treat it like one. Just act for it.
