The doctrine known as "eugenics" emerged in the late nineteenth-century as one response to the problems European nation-states faced. In an essay, explain how eugenics was related to both the work of Charles Darwin and the growth of nationalism. To what extent was it also connected to the emergence of a large, educated working class, continuing urban unrest, and changing gender roles for women and men? Can someone please help me understand this....

I have some old books, between 30 and 70 years old. How do I get rid of that "old book" smell? Any other tips for keeping them in order without spending too much? No, I'm not going to be putting them in a climate controlled, tinted glass vault.

The Swedish Government succeeded in stopping a manuscript by a Palestinian, titled PALESTINA MITT LAND, or something close. Does anyone have any information about this, one of many, censorship attacks on free speech by the Swedish Government?

I'm looking for some book suggestions. I don't really care what genre (mystery, sci fi, non-fiction, anything!) as long as the story has great characters. I love when the characters are so well described and laid out that you feel like you know them and really care what happens to them. Thanks in advance! :)

I am writing a research paper on Edgar Allan Poe and my thesis is:

Edgar Allan Poe was an influential writer in American history.

Can anyone think of a snazzy title that I could use for my paper?

Just looking for funny stories here. What's the worst outfit you've ever seen someone wear to an audition? Please specify film, theatre or dance.

I'd really appreciate some stories to share with my class.

Thank you!

In my copy of the book "The Sound and the Fury", there is a reference in the first few pages to an event in the 1940's, and even more references to the 1930's. The reference to the 1940's has something to do with World War II (the resitance or some such thing in France). How can this be if the book was published in 1929?

I appreciate that this war was, as civil wars often are, very traumatic. There were atrocities on both sides as detailed in the Anthony Beevor book/s and others. However, it is now 70 years ago, and many of us would like to visit battle sites etc but it seems as if the Spanish want to sweep it all under the carpet. Is it still such a sensitive subject?. I was in Spain between 1956 and 1958 and know what the Franco regime was like but would have thought enough time has elapsed as there can't be many civil war veterans alive.
