One day or night Harrient Tubman was cleaning or picking cotton or doing something inslaved (under the order of another).

There had to be an 'ahhh' moment that everything changed for her.... she looked around and in her heart she was no longer a slave... she was free! She might have still physically been on the plantation and looked like a slave but in HER mind she was FREE.... she was free before she ever stepped foot off of that plantation.... she made the choice to no longer be a slave...

My question is what do you think her first thought was the moment she was FREE within? Did she look around and chuckle? Did she look around to see if anyone else felt/heard that "ahhh" that she just felt? Did she think she was crazy?

What do you think her first thought was?
Imagine how mind blowing that first second for her must have been when she made the choice to no longer be a slave.....

WOW

Could someone recommend a book that gives a thorough, detailed analysis about how to write fiction. One that is replete with techniques, suggestions for prose, and other handy dandy stuff.

I've searched sites that deal with folk singers (including The Newport Folk Festival) and find all kinds of information about the singers and the folk movement. But there are very little photographs on these sites.

Do any of you know of a site (or sites) that archives photographs of the folk music scene from the 50s and 60s?

It's research for a painting I want to do that pays homage to those early singer - songwriters. Even photos of the old beatnick coffee houses like 'The Gaslight' in New York or 'The Hungry I' in San Fransisco would greatly help.

Thank you.

I am going to a party this week, and there is going to be a lot of "dancing." I know grinding isn't really dancing, but the kids at my school are really into it, and it's going to be the only kind of dance anyone is gonna be doing. I have never grinded before, and I don't want to look like a complete jerk that has no idea what he's doing. Basically, the first time I do it, I want to give the impression I've done it tons of times. Can anyone give me some advice on what I should do so I don't look stupid. You know, like what would the girl be expecting from me.

Hey, i wanted to know if anybody knew how to do the crip walk/krumping/clowning, and if so, think you could break it down for me? I've watched some youtube videos and my friends do it.However, it goes a bit fast, so if anyone had any tips, thanks and much appreciated. (And yes i know its not an actual crip walk unless a crip does it, i say "crip walk" cuz thats the way its most recognized :P )

I wrote this over a year ago and thought it might be worth something. May I have your advice?

"A Tender Journey"

'Tis seem a fools' errand,
To seek and naught to find,
From illimitable mind,
End of time, start of Prime.

For I see thee in dexterous quest,
And bosoms warmth upon my chest,
In terminus seek, I'll not my best,
Starting at forever, ending at never.

Here is my translation of the poem:
It seems stupid
for an intelligent person
to look for and never find
the end to the start of love (b/c no end exists).

Because I see you in my life,
and I love you,
I'll not seek an end,
to what cannot end.

In other words, I will love you forever.

What can I do??
Thank you for your consideration.

I didn't know who I was or where I was. It was like I had just awoken from a long sleep. The faces around me were none that I could recall. The man in white spoke softly and said, "We're all suprised you were able to survive that." I had no idea what "that" was and no one was willing to give up any details. When questioned the other folks around me said, "Just rest." I knew I had to find out what had happend to me but II knew I wouldn't find out from the people around me.

Fantasy and horror are my favorites. I read a lot so the book can be difficult and have hard vocabulary in it. The reason I say 12-16 is because I don't want an adult book.

My story is set in the early Victorian era.
There is a prostitute who is taken in by a decent lady. So, from here on, I'm not sure about the plot. I don't want it to be one of those "cliched" story about a prostitute becoming into a decent lady like in "My fair lady." But I want the theme of the story being: !)the prostitute seeks worldly acceptance, and she continues to seek after it, but in vain. And this desire for worldly love and acceptance leads to her destruction. OR 2) She has a heart more pure than the decent people. She is more honest, more kind. But the decent people refuse to see her for her character, but only see her by her past reputation as a prostitute. So, society suppresses her from becoming a happy lady, accepted by them. So, she leaves the woman who took her in, and returns back to the brothel, believing what society made her think: that she is bad, and not good enough. OR, would this story be better if she did not lose against society?
