Starship Troopers by Heinlein, Foundation series by Asimov, Lord of the Rings trilogy or The Hobbit by Tolkien, Twelfth Knight by Shakespeare. Okay the last one isn't action, but it's friggin hilarious.

I have a couple of books in mind. One book is by Walter Dean Meyers called FALLEN ANGELS. It is about Vietnam and it reads like a movie, fast and easy to comprehend. I would also recommend, if you have more classics in mind, Hemingway's FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS, which is set during the Spanish Civil War. Not as quick paced as the previous book, but deeper.

Of course, I've loved the Ian Fleming James Bond books as well.

All of the books already suggested would be OK. I like all of the Tom Clancy novels too--these include Crimson Tide, Cardinal of the Kremlin, and many others.
