Polymer clay is a particular product made to be formed and then cooked out at home oven temperatures to make a hard, waterproof object. Its colors are bright and can be worked so they don't blend so items similar to glass fused objects can be made.
Polymer is a plastic but plastic objects are not made of polymer clay.
In one sense, you are trying to say "Horses are animals, so are all animals horses?" In another sense, there are dozens of kinds of plastic including some that will melt at the temperatures polymer clay is cooked at and others that will char instead of melting as the temperature is raised. Most of the objects you name were molded from a hot liquid plastic that was injected into a mold, cooled, knocked out and cleaned up.

In modern life a lot of stuff is made of plastic. Never heard it called polymer clay. If you want to get away from it, take a walk in the woods and try not to see the trash.

The 2 oz packs can get you a long way. Charms for necklaces or cell phone straps are always great kids projects, but you can really make anything - magnets, Barbie food, pencil toppers etc. I recommend you to get the colored pieces, it's a lot easier both when sculpting (so that you're able to see the different parts better) but also so they won't have to paint it afterwards + paint can chip, so depending on what the creations are used for it might not be the best idea.
