I don't think you can compare the two very easily. I've done both, in fact I still dance. Both require a lot of physical strenght and flexibility if you are doing it a serious level. You can't compare gymnastics at Olympics to club dancing and say dancing is easier. If you have to compare, compare gymnastics to competitive dancing.
Flips are not any harder than pirouettes, it is just different. Often enough, you get to do crazy things almost like flips in dancing but you do them to music and next to your partner(s).
However, there aren't too many different styles to gymnastics - there is a set number of events and certain moves that you just have to be able to do or else. In this regard, dancing is broader and thus more accepting. But it is just as strict if not more strict if you are talking about serious forms like ballet - you have to be able to do certain things or else ... else you switch to an easier more forgiving style of dance. Don't be fooled by the weightless airy look of a ballerina - she is just as strong if not stronger than a gymnast. And all the injuries in dancing are similar to those of contact sports.

I would say dance. I know many people would say gymnastics because of the flips and things they do. However, many gymnasts take ballet for technique, balance, etc. Many gymnastics moves are dance moves. To be a great dancer, you have to have outstanding technique, balance, corrdination. Your legs, arms, and ankles must be extremly strong or else many dance moves are impossile to do. I have been dancing for many years and I still can't do certain dance moves. Pro dancers have to dance very fast and though it looks easy, and it incredily hard. We have to do certain things that gymnats can't even imagine. I am not trying to put down gymnasts, but i think dance is definitly harder!

depenind on what kind of dance. I do modern lyrical and hip hop..IM not talking shake your *** hip hop either..Im talking realy hip hop. I think dance is harder..because it requires everything gymnastics does..flips and flexibility..but you dont just depend on your self..but your team mates..you need to know how to preform..for instance..clowning..you need to act..gymnastics is hard..but it's all you..you don't learn teamwork..dance is gymnastics and so much more.you're not flipping around on spring matts..but spinning on your head on a gym floor. hip hop is always changing..theres always somthing new to learn..you can perfect some move that you think is amazing..adn you go to battle and by the time you perfect it..it's wack. dance is much harder.

Gymnastics. Everyone dances, how many people do gymnastics. Gymnists are athletes of the highest quality. They must have strength, good equilibrium, balance, unafraid of heights, and must be able to withstand much pain.

gymnastics because it incorporates dance in it too, and you have to have really strong arms, and balance and there is more equipment that you have to master in gymnastics

i don't believe u can really decipher which one is harder than the other, b ecause they r 2 different forms of art, they both require different training even though i have seen a person use both arts together, they both require alot of skill to become techniqued and advanced within these two forms of art/dancing
