Do you think that we are morally obligated to help those who are less fortunate than ourselves, or do we only owe our allegiance to our immediate communities (i.e. family, town). To put in more bluntly, should we consider ourselves a global nation whose fates are inextricably linked or are we all just strangers who only need to be concerned with individual affairs? any constructive comments would be terrrific!

So, I have to read some lines in front of a camera for a role in a movie.

Although I think I kind of know what I'm doing, I've never had actual 'acting training'

Are there any subtle, idiosyncratic, or otherwise unacceptable things that a newbie would do that would be frowned upon in an audition?

Things like, do I talk to the camera? should I try to 'act out' what I'm saying with movement? I'm reading a monologue 'in the style of a rousing speech that a general would give his troops before going into battle.' Is voice strength fluctuation a good thing? (i.e. be loud, softer, etc?) Do newbies generally read too slow? too fast?

Hints! Techniques! Help!
Thanks.

Following the legislative orders of 17th September 1926, published in the "Government Gazette" N2 331, 21st September 1926, and the Decision of the Ministerial Council dated 10th November 1927, and published in the Government Gazette S2 287, 13th November 1927, the process of renaming the inhabited places was accelerated to an incredible degree. Consequently, in the course of 1926, 440 places in the Aegean part of Macedonia were renamed: 149 in 1927, 835 and-in 1928, 212, i.e. in only three years , 1926, 1927 and 1928, 1,497 places in the Aegean part of Macedonia were renamed. By the end of 1928 most of the centres of population in the Aegean part of Macedonia had been given new names, but the Greek state continued the process by a gradual perfection of the system of renaming, effected through new laws and new instructions. On t3th March 1929 the special law known under its number, 4,096, was passed and published in the "Government Gazette" S-- 99 of 13th March 1929.

I've written a rather lengthy children's book and I'm looking for feedback. Although I would appreciate a good proofreader or editor, I'm not looking for perfunctory services right now. What I want is someone who'll enjoy the book and tell me what works and what doesn't from a reader's point of view.

I know, I know. Someone's going to suggest that I give it to a relative, friend, or professor to look over. I've tried that. My little brother wasn't too much of a help, although he is roughly the target audience. Because it's a children's story, I can't think of anyone else to give it to. Would a professor want to read it? Should I try taking it to a writing lab?

So, where should I look? Any suggestions?

It would be great if there was one site with information on numerous classic authors. Please don't refer me to wikipedia. I am sure everyone else in the class will be using it. I have to research a list of 25 authors, and it would really be great if the site included more information about their style and such rather than just their lives.
