I think that maybe the veil is just supposed to be something made to kill you. You know how it sort of transfixed them and then they heard voices? I think that it's supposed to tranfix you and make you curious enough to want to go through it, but maybe only if you've seen death before then you can hear the voices. But it probably would have made them want to go through the veil and then, when they did, they would never come back out. Like maybe they would be thrust into like some world of souls from the people who were also dumb enough to go through the veil. Then maybe the dead souls were what made the voices or something. I'm not really sure, though. I'm only guessing. I think that, on purpose, J.K. Rowling made it really hard to just guess at what is supposed to be behind the veil. Maybe we'll find out in the next book. Or we might never find out. I kind of didn't like the way J.K. didn't address the veil AT ALL in the sixth book because I think that a lot of the people that read Harry Potter were sort of looking forward to it, myself included.

It's death. You travel through to the other world. I never really thought this was a question to ponder, that JKR made it pretty clear. I'm also fairly confident that Sirius Will Not be coming back. As horrible as that is, he's gone folks.

I was actually thinking about posting this question myself a few days ago (!!) but I'm desperate to get to level 2. There is a very interesting theory about the veil , just check out this link http://www.mugglenet.com/editorials/theundergroundlake/tul12.shtml I really encourage you to check it out. There is a part two if you enjoy it: http://www.mugglenet.com/editorials/theundergroundlake/tul17.shtml
Of course, Sirius isn't dead, so it can't REALLY be a veil of death. That's just my personal opinion.

Death is probably the answer. Sirius might die, but he doesn't want to come back.

That was really sad. I almost cried. Snape's a *)%&)@%&* if you've read the lastest book.
I think it depends, because it's not like the world we live in. Good people in the magic world don't go to heaven. The bad guys get lucky.
