I don t know your school programs, your books, etc. but everytime i meet people from US they ignore everything about Sumer, Babylon, etc. (except what Bible tells).
Is it due to religious fears? books you use at schools? teachers? ...

Does anyone else worry about unintentionally and subconsciously mimicking other authors? I'm caught between reading anything I can get my paws on or burying my head in the sand to avoid tainting my imagination. I find that after reading a story, my writings and ideas tend to resemble the author's.

I wonder if I should read up until it's impossible to tell the individual influences apart when reading my scribbles or abstain from the library altogether.

Am I the only mimicosis sufferer?

I was quite excited to have a poem accepted in the National Poetry Institue of Canada's annual contest... I've since heard that such contests are a scam to trick you into buying the anthology, paying for "typesetting costs", etc. The possibility that I was scammed is very upsetting... does anyone know if they are legitimate? Has anyone seen any of their previous anthologies in print anywhere?

Everytime it starts so pleasant,

Disagreement cause emotions,
To undergo a metamorphosis.
Respect to tolerance, anger to hatred,
Some by accident, other,
Done on purpose,
Some in ignorence,
Others meant to be deviant,
Agreement, to maybes,
To disagreement,
Prideful differance,
Result in signatures,for restrictions
Over food, weapons, and funds,
Heated words morph into guns,
Passed to Generals to Majors,
Everything passed down to pawns,
Who's mind are broken,
Bent then remolded,
Believing who is weak,
And who is strong.
Love changes to song, dance, and hugs,
Hate twists from words, to fist, to guns.
The emotions that rule our lives,
Are the monuments left behind,

I love fantasy, HUGE fan of Harry Potter. I also loved The Da Vinci Code, and I also like Eragon and Eldest, any good books to recommend in that genre. Maybe some of the classics, I haven't read many of those... I NEED HELP!!
