I'm an architecture student, and well... sometimes our professor decides to be randomly evil and assign us difficult plateworks (plans) with a really tight deadline. I'm always tempted to doze off during late-night and early-morning hours.... which is basically academic suicide if I do give in to sleep.

He's currently assigned us to plan a 3-storey apartelle; with floor plans, elevations, sections, site dev't plan, perspectives... everything. It's due next week, and I am going to be screwed if I don't stay awake. 0_0

I have read Gilbert Highet's Diogenes and Alexander. He concluded that
"He knew that of all men then alive in the world only Alexander the
conqueror and Diogenes the beggar were FREE".
I feel a bit confused why they were the only free men in the world then? How do you understand?

On 12 April 1861, Confederate militia lay siege and bombarded the Union military base of Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina. This was in response to President Lincoln's attempt to re-supply the fort with provisions, prompting the South to attack before the supply ship arrived. Most historians tend to believe that Lincoln was forcing the issue in order to create an excuse to form an army by which the Union could use force to reign in the secessionist states. What if the Confederacy did not bite and allowed the fort to be re-supplied?

I’m looking for answer that would give a plausible series of events that would follow given the change in history provided. Details would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your answers.

it sounds completely stupid, but i'd love to learn to figure-skate and jump and twirl and do lifts.

okay, now that i've officially made myself sound like an idiot, here it is. i am 16 now, with little instruction that would help with ice-skating/agility (i took gymnastics for a few years) but i'd love to learn. my question: is it too late?

i'm thin and in pretty good shape, yes, but not very graceful, and not very flexible. i do just fine, but you won't see me putting my foot over my head any time soon.

still, i'd love to skate. not just around in a circle, but actually learn the art of figure-skating. anyone in the same boat? any idea where i might start off?

serious answers only, please. thank you! =)

I'm just being curious. I went to church as a child but as I've grown older its clear to see the world isn't such a perfect place. If there was 'a god' why doesn't it seem like there is?

A friend of mine is tone deaf - he cannot sing at all, yet he tries anyway and often embarrasses me in public and in front of my professional musician friends. Sometimes, he starts on the right pitch, and after a few sentences, he's completely in a different key from the pianist! If the pianist transposes to try to catch up, he will transpose his singing again and even sing in-between keys! I have "absolute pitch" and while he obviously does not, he claims that he might since the recent discovery of my abilities. I tested him once to try to end this and out of ten tones, he "guessed" one right, one miss by the semitone, three missed by a fifth, and the rest were complete guesses with no similarity. I tried again with chords and he could not identify the root at all - and he used to be a music major. Despite this, he continues to tell everyone that he is an extremely competent musician at the end of all of my concerts and tries to take the credit for my hard work. Why does he do it?
