I look at the sky every day and every evening. It's beautiful and so much bigger than I am. I gaze at the night sky when I am ecstatically happy or when broken-hearted. For me it is a connection with my Creator and a reminder that my problems are not as infinite as they may seem.
In times of deepest pain I lie on my back and look up at the sky until my soul finds peace. It's not that I think God is in the sky; He is omnipresent, but the sky is the most beautiful cathedral of all and it's always there waiting...

I don't' know what it is to be "conn", but you are definitely right about the sky. I could just gaze forever. I think it evokes a feeling of eternity. Of peace and tranquillity that just isn't in our day to day lives. It makes me feel like there is more to my life than bills, and chores, and responsibility. Like I am part of something so much bigger. I especially like the colours of a sunset, and the stars. I purposefully don't have bedroom curtains, so I can see the sky when I lie in bed. But don't worry! I do have privacy also!
It does seem to call to us doesn't it? Perhaps a piece of us all just wants to go and be in it. Like it's home. Whether heaven, or a celestial body where perhaps our species originated, it feels like we belong with the sky.

Possibly we are mentally trained (so to speak) from childhood to believe the Heavens and our Creator are "above" us. So maybe we throughout our lives feel the need to 'look up to the sky' for the understanding of beauty, better things, unfamiliar connection, in which all these things are a comfort to us somehow. But in all reality we can also close our eyes, instead of looking up - and know that there is beauty within our hearts as well as communication within our hearts and connection too. I can say this from recent experience. I lost my Dearest Mother to cancer 11 months ago and I have learned to understand these things you questioned and made them real.....inside my heart and mind.

We look up to the sky because we evolved from tree dwelling primates whose existence depended upon looking up to find food and also to watch for predatory birds that preyed on them.
