Try to come up with a main character for your story. Write down a description - male, female, eye color, etc. etc.

Then take this character and imagine then in some odd place or scenario – anything goes! Write down ideas on what would have to happen to your character or how they would react to the scenario you placed them in.

You can do this for multiple characters if you like.

This may seem futile, but it will help you flesh out some characters and give you insight into what you may want to happen to this type of character in a potential story. You may even come up with multiple story lines!

Strong well crafted main characters can inspire readers to love your story as well as drive you to write a great story for these imagined beings so be in! :-)

I'm not going to give you any ideas (you're smart enough!) but here are some tips on coming up with them on your own.

1. Take a major event in your life (e.g the birth of a sibling) and turn it into a fantasy story. (Your little sister was born as part of a century-old prophecy, etc.)

2. As was said earlier, take a wacky or wild dream you had, tone it down, and turn it into a story. (A four headed guy selling furniture? Why not!)

3. Call up five of your friends or family members, have a conversation with them, then turn all five conversations into a story.

4. Do a google search for the most random thing you can think of, then look through the results to see if anything hits you.

5. Go to your favorite store and pretend to shop, while actually listening to other people's conversations and trying to turn them into a cool story.

6. Listen to your favorite song and then turn it into a story.

Above all, drink coffee, eat chocolate, listen to some good music, and write!

You seem to believe that one needs some incredible and elusive plot line but the reality is that good fiction comes from a sensitivity that can see the extraordinary in the ordinary. If you are able to have envision an elderly man seeing his friend's name listed in the obituary column of the newspaper, and then sit him down on the porch lighting a cigarette and looking at the new budding flowers in his flower garden then you will have captured life. That is the mission: to capture life, to see the beauty in the ordinary, the humor in the tragedy, and to use words with sensitivity. As Leo Tolstoy says, the only thing fit to be described in prose is the inner life of a character

Why not carry a small steno pad with you and just jot down random stuff. For example you fell out of bed and stubbed your toe, or you walked into a coffee house. Well you get the idea. Jot down what you see and hear. You may be able to piece together more then you think.

Start writing, and write every day. Write about you, about your loved ones about your life. Invent a story about your cat or dog and don't worry about the quality of what you are writing. Try to have fun in writing. Write for yourself not to become a Famous Very Wealthy Writer.
And one day, after months or years, a good story will come out from your hands.
Good luck!

I think you should give a little bit more info than that. Do you want to write fantasy, humor, thriller, romance, etc. I could come up with ideas in many subjects.

As a fellow writer lemme give you some advice. Take a long walk, listen to your favorite music, write a long e-mail to your best friend but whatever you do don't force inspiration. You'll get nowhere doing that. If you still need help e-mail me. I'd love to help you. ( rikku_cutie2 )

Write a story about someone who wants something, it's the only thing they want, and they can't have it.
