I'm an architecture student, and well... sometimes our professor decides to be randomly evil and assign us difficult plateworks (plans) with a really tight deadline. I'm always tempted to doze off during late-night and early-morning hours.... which is basically academic suicide if I do give in to sleep.

He's currently assigned us to plan a 3-storey apartelle; with floor plans, elevations, sections, site dev't plan, perspectives... everything. It's due next week, and I am going to be screwed if I don't stay awake. 0_0

Cold water on the face or even in the shower. Caffeine also helps me.

Red Bull works alittle.

I would suggest getting up from the table every couple of hours and exercise for 15 minutes, enough to get your heart rate up and breathing heavy.

Also, take a little 1-2 hour nap in the early evening (4-6 PM). If I do that, I'll be up until about 2AM with no problem.

Just remember, you do need sleep at least 6-8 hours a day. You won't do very good work without that.

Short but frequent breaks help a lot - a short walk for some fresh air. Coffee and/or No Doz also worked for me, but don't overdo either of them, and make sure you eat - and eat healthy.

If you've got any classmates with similar work habits, you could work in the same location, even if independently, in order to keep each other awake - having company is a huge help when you need to stay awake.

Good luck.

As an Archi student you are panicking very early. I never remember ever starting an assignment more than 2 days prior to submission. Get some junior to help you with the drafting.

Coffee and Tension will pull you thru.

And don't try drugs its not worth it.

Spend as much time as possible on the computer. The computer has lights that effect you just like sunlight, they keep you awake. Trust me, I was on the computer for a while before bed once, and I could not sleep AT ALL that night! so it works! if you cant spend time on a computer try drinking caffene or having a high-energy bar. Good luck on stayin up!! :-)

I'm skeptical about Red Bull. It never did much for me. I will second, however, the recommendation that you take a break every little while and go for a short walk or other form of exercise. Caffeine is fine in moderation.

Well, i used to work from 7pm to 7am and the way i stayed awake was to drink 1 redbull, make sure to eat a good meal but don't overeat, and to try to take an hour nap before hand. good luck and ur class sounds awesome!

strategic consumption of red bull helps. sad to say, smoking keeps me awake, and sitting in only a moderately comfortable chair is a motivating factor. i have a 60 page essay due next week as well, this is what is working for me.
