Or to put it another way, is determinism unavoidable in a universe governed by natural law? Beware that this question may be deeper than it first appears, and some of the answer may surprise you. Also notice that this line of thought can have profound implications for nature of free will, and therefore affect our notions of human nature. I am not confident of my own answer at the moment, which is why I would like to hear some thoughtful responses.

"Do you believe that everything happens for a reason........." I opologize for my error, I meant to say that " It is NOT the will of GOD that we fail to repent. " My sincere apologies........ Not a good error to make.............

Suppose that erotic desire loses all its stigma, so that people are no longer offended, ashamed or embarrassed by sexual activity. Erotic play becomes so totally integrated into civil, public life that having a sex party is just as normal and wholesome as having a Tupperware party, or hosting a Bible study. Now, I want to suggest that in this sort of society, some women might accumulate a great deal of wealth and power. Why? Because without the standard laws and social inhibitions we know today, women would be free to use their sensual endowments to virtually unlimited personal advantage. With no laws against prostitution and no social stigmas associated with sluttery, ambitious women who didn’t mind putting their sexuality to use could gain many social advantages. How would this affect the distribution of wealth and power in society? Could patriarchy survive in such a setting? What would happen to the human race?

It's about two boys who build a spaceship out of tin cans and, with the help of a proffessor or doctor in the neighborhood, fly to Mars. I recall that the "doctor" who helped them was Martian himself, a fact obvious to the reader, though the boys don't seem to be aware. Ring any bells with anyone?
