I'm not sure if they can change the whole world but they can have a major impact. Look at Hitler.

I sincerely hope so. Many answers on here gave good examples -- political leaders, religious leaders, etc. But, seriously, I believe the average person has the ability to change the world.
Look at how many people you come into contact with daily. Then imagine how many people they contact, and so on and so on. If one person changes one attitude or belief or action of a single person, how many others would be affected?
I teach at-risk youth. I HAVE to believe that one person can make a difference. Otherwise, what would be the point in helping these kids make a change? What would be the point in much at all?

One person can change the world, and it has happened many times throughout history.
Many were scientists, some were political leaders, Others were writers.
It is not tough to come up with a list of those that have done it.
Some for the better, some for the worse.

One person can create a barely perceptible butterfly effect that can transform others, little by little, one small step at a time, to sprout their wings & fly.
I don't know how many people believe that one person can change the world, but I personally believe it. It doesn't mean that it will occur overnight, or that we'd even recognize the source if it were to happen.

Ghandi changed the world, Presidents have changed the world, Kings and queens etc. Most of all, one man has changed the world for billions: Jesus Christ. So, in answer to your question, one man (or woman) can change the world.

I agree. One will be lucky enough to change the whole world. But we each make a difference and change the world somewhere for someone.

I do. Throughout history, names stand out whose discoveries, inventions, or theories have changed the world dramatically: Guttenburg invented the Printing Press, probably the single most important invention in history...allowed dissemination of knowledge
Edison's many inventions brought so much to the world it is unimaginable living without them: Light bulb, generators (electric), so much more
Einstein's Theory of Relativity changed thinking about time, energy, and matter...truely one of history's greatest theorists. The list goes on and on...each finding/inventing/introducing new ideas and technology that furthered mankind. I am avoiding any reference to religious people, for their contributions, though collectively huge, have more to do with a mindset than they do with advancement of the race towards knowledge and the technology that brings so much time into our lives that we actually have time to dream up new ideas instead of spending all our time working to put food on the table.
