Suppose that erotic desire loses all its stigma, so that people are no longer offended, ashamed or embarrassed by sexual activity. Erotic play becomes so totally integrated into civil, public life that having a sex party is just as normal and wholesome as having a Tupperware party, or hosting a Bible study. Now, I want to suggest that in this sort of society, some women might accumulate a great deal of wealth and power. Why? Because without the standard laws and social inhibitions we know today, women would be free to use their sensual endowments to virtually unlimited personal advantage. With no laws against prostitution and no social stigmas associated with sluttery, ambitious women who didn’t mind putting their sexuality to use could gain many social advantages. How would this affect the distribution of wealth and power in society? Could patriarchy survive in such a setting? What would happen to the human race?

roninscribe80 and Eikie: I think you two misunderstand me. I am NOT suggesting that all (or even most) women would use their bodies for economic or political gain. I am saying that most women would have this option, and that a lot of them would take advantage of it. Even if only, say, 2 percent of all women actually did this, that would still be a LOT of women (20,000 in a city of 1 million). I am also NOT suggesting that this is the only way that women can succeed in the world. I am suggesting that even if a very small percentage of women used this power, we might eventually see a significant shift in the balance of power between men and women. I have not real evidence for this idea, and I’m not even sure I believe the idea much myself. I’m just speculating cuz I like to stir up ideas once in a while.

Googolullage: Are you for real? Or are you just having a bit of fun to see if you can rile people up? Would you really like to see humanity get rid of women if we didn’t need them for procreation? If so, you are a bad boy and need a good flogging – tho I suspect you’d like that – you kinky bats-terd. In any case, thanks for offering up the radical misogynist view. The scary thing is that unfortunately there probably are some men who actually think this way…sad examples of the human race. But moving on…you point out that many women already use this power. Of course they do! But their numbers and overall impact are severely limited, by traditional social stigmas that impose peer pressure and heap shame on anyone who thinks too liberally about erotic desire – particularly women who think too liberally in this realm.

My suggestion is that perhaps patriarchy as we know it today came into being in order to limit these options enough to keep women from gaining too much social control. I doubt that it was a consciously planned strategy, but rather, just a natural, unconscious outgrowth of men’s fear, combined with the desire of men to pass name, wealth, and private through male offspring (patrilineal decent).

Andy: From what I can see, a basic difference in male and female sexuality makes it more difficult for average men to wield much erotic influence with women. One example: Men tend to be strongly influenced by visual stimulation – a beautiful woman has a sort of attractive power, no matter what her social/economic status or personality. Also, men tend to have hero fantasies, so a powerless woman is not a turn-off, and may be a turn-on. Thus even very plain, impoverished, women have more erotic power than the average man. A good-looking man can catch a woman’s eye, but if he doesn’t play his cards right, most women will lose interest in a heartbeat – physical attraction needs to be backed up. One place where men do have advantage: If a man is rich/powerful, this is a natural aphrodisiac for women and they will sometimes let this power get the best of them. But this favors men who already have power – not those who are average, poor, etc.

Interesting question. Briefly, I do believe that men are afraid of the power women have, and have always been afraid. And women are often afraid of women who use their power. This fear protects a patriarchal society, and lots and lots and lots of businesses that function this same way.
Not sure what would happen to human race. Humans tend to abuse power in every form. I certainly don't see sex as a panacea, but women's false modesty about sexual enjoyment, and frank discussions of sex by men and women are sadly lacking.

Sex does influence wealth.
Can women use it better than men? No.
Used to be women were viewed as chattle.
Now women have laws favoring them, divorce laws, discrimination laws, harassment laws. That changes the relationship.
The problem is that men are still expected to be the aggressor in the relationship. Make the proposal, et al.
So yes, men are at a serious disadvantage with women these days and women love it that way.
As for erotic energy, it comes form with in. A woman may stroke you up and get an effect, but; her aura does not make you stand at attention. That is stretching things quite a bit, pun intended.
As for the future, wealth dies with a society, to the victors go the spoils, and women have been among those spoils. That is what will happen to the human race. War, followed by pillaging, followed by a man's world, again. Darwin.

It's absolutely threatening to men. Women would be on top of the world if they so chose to use there bodies to gain any amount of money or power. Men are obviously very weak and it is on a RARE occasion when a man can turn down a woman with erotic energy to save his life. Women have more power then men ever did. Men may be physically stronger in many senses but there mind is lonely. When a woman is feeling her most unattractive there are still men out there willing and excited to pursue an engagement. That baffles me. Maybe it wouldn't be that women have so much power if men weren't so pathetic.

As one that grew up in the late 60's and early 70's in Toronto, I knew sex partys that seemed normal to us at the time. Any woman who tryed to change our mutual fun into some form of capitalist venture would not have been invited back, ever! You cannot be an advocate of 'free love' with a price on it.
A short time after this, I learned a lot more about what became my morality, and would have no use for the partys or an individual tramp, one on one. I elevated above the level of a dog on a female dog in heat, and have learned what is of value in a woman.
For this man, female erotic energy could never be threatening to me.

~Au Contraire~
Women's erotic power is as much culturally - created, as biological.
You assume that all males are 14 -year old boys.
At a certain maturity, a man can resist a woman, without being gay.We just realize that you are just like us, but with bigger breasts and little clits instead of bigger penises. And weak muscles. In fact, you are weak, and the only reason we don't get rid of you is to
allow propagation of humanity. Of your own merits, well, you aren't even as good as our male fantasies.
One $10 porn mag is worth more than a dozen so-called "real" women.
Women love themselves so much, they don't let men in.
And, your hypothetical society is actually here, now.
Women DO use their physical
"WARES" for personal advantage.Like the classic
"Trophy Wife" who snares a rich husband with her legs.
Attractive women, who use that for gain, as in movie stardom, etc., are just PROSTITUtES, within the bounds of the law, and in psychological denial about themselves.(Example: Selma Hajek prayed to God:"Please give me BREASTS!"
But actually, only a SMALL percentage of women really have any "erotic power". Most are rather ordinary-looking. And what power they might have, all comes from sexy clothing, makeup, and other fetish gimmicks like seamed black stockings. Get real. A naked woman is a lot less intriguing than one wearing the mask of erotic clothing.
You project your OWN narcissistic Self-Love, onto men; and somehow, men buy into it.
BTW, we MEN have our own Erotic Power, which women feel, and you know it, babe.
Otherwise you'd never want Sex. You pretend you don't need or want it, but that is all a LIE, of which women really are the masters of--not erotic power, but DECEIT.
The basic difference between the sexes is the response to truth and reality. Men want to tell truth, but often are silent because we don't know the truth. But a Woman's FIRST and BASIC INSTINCT is to LIE.!

You know, it's not like women are these sex machines that, if given the opportunity, will just go all out with every man, woman, and child. We're not oodled with this mountain sex drive, and even if we did, our bodies wouldn't be able to hold up for a very long period of time. We're just not built that way.
What about the male race? Even with biblical restriction, social restriction, personal restriction, some are already out there on the HUNT for sex. Every 20 seconds, someone is raped. What do you call that? hm? And do you know why we actually refrain from having sex all the time? We used to live in packs, and caves consisting of groups. Groups of people, families and otherwise. We had to fight for our food. And if one more mouth had to be added to sometimes 20 people, we had to fight for more. That ment everyone had to sacrifice to get their people better chances of gene distribution. comprende?

Sex "toy" parties "are" becoming as common as tupperware parties! Pure romance, Passion Parties, ect-all offer a girl's night
out theme that has strong sexual currents! We come from Puritanical underpinings; women were meant to be breeders and servants. We were; and are~ in some cultures, less valuable than livestock, and more easily disposed of then some property. Sexulaity is primal and powerful. But so is sexual disease. Some people are addicted to sex like an alcoholic to his drink or a junkie to his drug. I reccommend that you read,
"The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire". That may answer your question better then we here. And do not worry; patriarchy only survives as long as women allow it too! Unite and fight!

It depends on whether you think that women are meant solely for sexual use, and that God never intended women to be productive members of the working world. If that's the case, you're spending too much time with one hand on the Bible and the other on your ****.

The family is at the core of the human family. The human family is protected by the laws and civil rights of our government who presently reflect a Conservative approach to the human rights of the preservation of the human family and it's moral right, to exist. To break down the Human Family is to break down our own future and hope of our society.
