When I watch nature shows, sometimes the narrator says that certain animals such as cockroaches and sharks have stayed relatively the same for thousands for years.

Isn't natural selection and evolution supposed to be a fierce competition with an animal's prey and predators? Is it understood how they gained such a large advantage (that they could stay that way for thousands of years) if each few generation is supposed to be the tiniest of changes?

Note, I am not one of those crazy religious fundies. I would like to know what is the most supported explanation

Can we, just for one question, look past religious barriers and ask this question honestly...Isn't it hard NOT to judge people? I literally cried when I read about the Pakistan's rightful president being assassinated, and I admit, I judged her murderers in my mind harshly. Isn't it really hard NOT to judge people? You read about a woman leaving her baby in a dumpster, don't you think that if you were in that situation that you would have done it differently?
Can I just reach across the aisle for one moment and find a common bond? It's hard not to say that "I" would have done it differently if "I" were in their shoes....Mother Theresa, Hitler, Stalin, Bush, take your pick. We all think that "we" would have done a better job...

My wife and I are turning a suburban backyard into a mini-food forest. We had a couple of fig trees on the place when we bought it. One of them does a good job of producing edible figs. The other tree crops prolifically, producing a large number of good sized figs. But they're tasteless! They have a white pulpy interior (which is cardboardy in texture and lacking taste) with little of the juicy, purple interior that table figs have.

The tree looks very healthy. It is in a brick corner facing open to the south and east. It gets a lot of morning sun and the upper leaves get afternoon sun as well. Is there something we can do? Perhaps a missing nutrient?

Thanks

David

I have honey colored oak cabinets. I realize that reds would look good but I don't really want red. I was thinking of doing a cobalt blue theme...maybe with lime accents. I am not sure how that would look with those colored cabinets. So what color do you all think would look stunning with honey oak cabinets? Not just blues...any colors. If you are a professional-please state that when answering. Thanks!!!

My 22 month old son is still nursing and I am planning to let him self-wean. I find though that despite the recommendations of the World Health Organization and countless studies... most women don't nurse this long. I'm just curious to see how long other mothers nursed their babies. And why did they nurse for that length of time?

I read in the newspaper today (the Toledo Blade) that the Hockey News named Nicklas Lidstrom the greatest European NHL player since 1967 (as well as the tenth best player since that year).

While I strongly believe Lidstrom is one of the ten greatest defensemen ever, as well as the greatest Swedish-born hockey player of all time (with apologies to Peter Forsberg, Pelle Lindbergh, and Mats Sundin), there is no way I would forgo the talents of Jaromir Jagr, Pavel Bure, Dominik Hasek, et al among the European elite. The question here is this: is Lidstrom really the greatest European-born NHL player since 1967?

I will be a graduate nursing in May of 2008 and will be interviewing for RN positions soon. I am interviewing in hospitals and smaller offices. Should I wear a suit or just dress nicely? By dress nicely, I mean a nice pair of slacks or a skirt and a button-up collared shirt. I know the rule of thumb is to dress one step higher than what you would wear on the job, but I will be wearing scrubs so one step up is jeans to me. I'd never wear jeans to an interview! I think a suit may be too dressy, but I want to separate myself from the other people interviewing. Is it ever wrong to wear a suit? Thanks! :)
