Indeed the absence of sign you may be waiting could actuanlly be the sign that nothing happens as what you expect. It is already an answer to your question that such an absence of the sign you expect did not happen. However, such sign may not be in the manner you are looking but somehow explains motu propio that such is actually the case.

Every things a sign of something I would say. Sign are around us if we take the time to notice. I've always believed that, just have not always seen them till it was too late. There you are. I think that's what your asking. ERRROOF!

It really depends on what sort of a sign you're expecting... if you walk down the road, and say, if nothing happens I will live a long life, if i get hit, I'm dead... and nothing happens, is that a sign, or the absense of one, because nothing happened... In my opinion even nothing happening, is a sign, because you probably took it to have just as much meaning as if something had happened, only opposite.
