My 22 month old son is still nursing and I am planning to let him self-wean. I find though that despite the recommendations of the World Health Organization and countless studies... most women don't nurse this long. I'm just curious to see how long other mothers nursed their babies. And why did they nurse for that length of time?

My son weaned himself at 8 months. When I worked, he got bottles, and that ended up being all he wanted. He Only breastfed at night from 6-8 months, and once he slept through the night, he was done.

I nursed my first until he self-weaned at 30 months. I'm currently nursing an 8 month old, I'll let him self-wean as well. I figure my kids are smart, they know when they're done.

It also depends on where you live. Where I live has the highest rates of breastfeeding initiation in the nation, and we nurse our babies for the longest as well. I found out that two of my next door neighbors, a few ladies down the block, and most of my friends nursed way past 1 year--and many past 2 or 3.

I breastfed my daughter for 15 months. For two months after that I let her breastfeed if she asked for it. She didn't completely self-wean herself - it was pretty mutual. I'm 23 weeks pregnant and plan on breastfeeding again for at least a year or whatever seems to work best.

I only bf my first for 3 wks (was young and no support)
My second for 22 mo, I only stopped because I was about 4 mo pregnant and wanted a "break" inbetween
My third is 3 mo and I'll let him self-wean

It is amazing how many women stop before 6 months, let alone
2 years.

I personally am thrilled to still be nursing my 16 month old
and will be until he is ready to stop.
Hubby and I are TTC so maybe I'll get to tandem nurse as well!!

Baby # 1: 6 months (supplemented with formula too).

Babies #2+3 (twins): 4 months because I got pregnant again (supplemented with formula).

Baby # 4 : 6 months (supplemented formula). Just too busy with all the others to keep nursing.

Babies # 5,6, 7 (triplets): formula fed, supplemented with breast for 6 months, 1 year for one of them because he had digestive issues.

I weaned my daughter at 15 months from the bottle, she's almost 19 months now. My daughter grew to become into taking a sippy cup all day long, different than like yours she grew to become into in elementary terms taking a bottle at nap and bedtime. I figured that if she ought to drink from a cup all day long and in no way ask for a bottle, then she grew to become into waiting to furnish it up and make the change thoroughly. I in simple terms took the bottles and placed them away in a cupboard and that grew to become into that. there grew to become into no crying, whining, no longer something. It relatively grew to become into the simplest transition for my daughter...I have been given fortunate. I comprehend that some childrens have a harder time with it than others, as you suggested you daughter cries for her bottle, however the main suitable situation you're able to do is in simple terms handle the crying for a pair days. i be attentive to its no longer person-friendly to take heed to your newborn cry and giving in is tempting while your being pushed to the shrink, yet once you permit her shop utilising the bottle, she'll in elementary terms enhance greater of a dependence to it and she or he ought to no longer wean herself till she's 3 or 4 years previous. Pediatricians advise weaning at 12 months and no later than 18 months, frequently with the aid of threat of the tooth decay and because like I suggested, the longer they use the bottle the harder that's to wean them from it. persist with your weapons and don't provide in. you will likely have one or 2 under pressure nights, yet she'll learn quickly sufficient to drink in elementary terms from the cup. after all, her utilising a bottle at bedtime and nap time is barely for convenience purposes, so possibly attempt paying for her a sparkling filled animal to sleep with. desire this enables.

i breastfed my son for 6 months, the only reason for me ceasing so early was due to not producing enough and him still being starving so i was left with no choice but to put him on formula. ideally i would have liked to breastfed until he was at least 12months, but ultimately its all up to personal choice and what you and your baby are happy with :D

So much fun to judge others isn't it!!

I breast feed twin boys for 4-5 months. Then I became so ill and had to stop. I ended up in hospital, for 10 days.
Anyway, I stopped. When I started formula, the boys would drink 2 litre's each. Imagine making that much milk a day!!

Yawn!! Is that the best you can do??? Ohh thumbs down!! How pathetic!!
