Morality is the judgment of good and bad behaviour according to conscience. Major monotheistic religions like Christianity and Islam do not allow for morality, instead insisting on obedience (following orders whatever they may be, for fear of punishment and hope of reward).

So, which religion(s), if any, allow their followers to be truly moral people, behaving according to conscience rather than merely following orders?

Cracking an international market is a goal of most growing corporations. It shouldn't be that hard, yet even the big multi-nationals run into trouble because of language and cultural differences. For example...

The name Coca-Cola in China was first rendered as Ke-kou-ke-la. Unfortunately, the Coke company did not discover until after thousands of signs had been printed that the phrase means "bite the wax tadpole" or "female horse stuffed with wax" depending on the dialect. Coke then researched 40,000 Chinese characters and found a close phonetic equivalent, "ko-kou-ko-le," which can be loosely translated as "happiness in the mouth."

In Taiwan, the translation of the Pepsi slogan "Come alive with the Pepsi Generation" came out as "Pepsi will bring your ancestors back from the dead."

Also in Chinese, the Kentucky Fried Chicken slogan "finger-lickin' good" came out as "eat your fingers off."

The American slogan for Salem cigarettes, "Salem - Feeling Free," got translated in the Japanese market into "When smoking Salem, you feel so refreshed that your mind seems to be free and empty."

When General Motors introduced the Chevy Nova in South America, it was apparently unaware that "no va" means "it won't go." After the company figured out why it wasn't selling any cars, it renamed the car in its Spanish markets to the Caribe.

Ford had a similar problem in Brazil when the Pinto flopped. The company found out that Pinto was Brazilian slang for "tiny male genitals". Ford pried all the nameplates off and substituted Corcel, which means horse.

When Parker Pen marketed a ballpoint pen in Mexico, its ads were supposed to say "It won't leak in your pocket and embarrass you." However, the company mistakenly thought the spanish word "embarazar" meant embarrass. Instead the ads said that "It wont leak in your pocket and make you pregnant."

An American t-shirt maker in Miami printed shirts for the spanish market which promoted the Pope's visit. Instead of the desired "I Saw the Pope" in Spanish, the shirts proclaimed "I Saw the Potato."

Chicken-man Frank Perdue's slogan, "It takes a tough man to make a tender chicken," got terribly mangled in another Spanish translation. A photo of Perdue with one of his birds appeared on billboards all over Mexico with a caption that explained "It takes a hard man to make a chicken aroused."

Hunt-Wesson introduced its Big John products in French Canada as Gros Jos before finding out that the phrase, in slang, means "big breasts." In this case, however, the name problem did not have a noticeable effect on sales.

Colgate introduced a toothpaste in France called Cue, the name of a notorious porno mag.

In Italy, a campaign for Schweppes Tonic Water translated the name into Schweppes Toilet Water.

Japan's second-largest tourist agency was mystified when it entered English-speaking markets and began receiving requests for unusual sex tours. Upon finding out why, the owners of Kinki Nippon Tourist Company changed its name.

and finally...

In an effort to boost orange juice sales in predominantly continental breakfast eating England, a campaign was devised to extoll the drink's eye-opening, pick-me-up qualities. Hence, the slogan, "Orange juice. It gets your pecker up."

By the way, these are all true!

An Amish boy and his father were visiting a mall. They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but especially by two shiny, silver walls that could move apart and back together again.

The boy asked his father, "What is this, Father?" The father [never having seen an elevator] responded "Son, I have never seen anything like this in my life, I don't know what it is."

While the boy and his father were watching wide-eyed, an old lady in a wheel chair rolled up to the moving walls and pressed a button. The walls opened and the lady rolled between them into a small room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched small circles of lights with numbers above the walls light up.

They continued to watch the circles light up in the reverse direction. The walls opened up again and a beautiful 24-year-old woman stepped out.

The father yells to his son, "Hurry boy - go get your mother!"

Is my ex doing these things, or am i paranoid?

or is he obsessed with me:
the guy thta we both liked each other, i dumped. mainly becuase i decided that though hes a great guy he isnt giving me what i need out of the relationship. i went cold turkey as in blocking his yahoo accounts and sending him a letter telling him not to contact me. i did this mainly becuase he always seems to suck me into an emtoional roller coaster, so being friends isnt a wise choice. that was two weeks ago. the first week i got a hang up call from "private caller" on my phone that means they pushed *67. the person just listned to my voice. and no it waslnt a telemarketer becuase thers shows up as "unkown". next, I am now getting instant messages for sex sites. saying " click on ___ to see my webcam" . number 1 i had this account a long time and never went to porno sites w/ it and never recieved these solicitations until NOW. is he behind it is this his little way of "being near me" or whatever. or am i just being paranoid?

In various gaming news articles it's been said that developers haven't realy taken full advantage of the PS3's tech such as the cell chip. This may be due to tech issues, lack of time, market and financial pressures, release deadlines, etc. As a result many PS3 games are merely ports of XBox 360 games, and don't look quite as good as their 360 counterpart.

http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/06/gamespot-xbox-360-games-look-better-than-ps3-ports-for-now/

I'm not a fanboy of either system, so PLEASE no fanboy or Sony vs. Microsoft debates. I like both the PS3 and Xbox 360, I like the PC too. It's just that I'd like to play games on various platforms depending on which takes advantage of each systems respective technology. Quick example - Xbox Live is a very good online service, PC great for multiplayer FPS, PS3 has cell chip.

So anyway, which PS3 games uniquely take advantage of the PS3 hardware? Will MGS4 showcase PS3 tech? Have developers only just started to make post of PS3 tech?

Thx.

So....I just moved to Riverside, CA...and of course, my car starts making a funny sound. I was hoping someone could tell me what it might be? I believe it's coming from the passenger side front wheel (?)...and it sounds like a ticking. It's not very loud....and it doesn't sound like the clicking that wheels make when your CV joints start to go bad. It gets worse when I go over bumps (but it does not get worse when I turn). it started about 2 weeks ago...and barely did it when I went over a bump, and now it does it all the time. I had the sway bar replaced, and the bushing replaced about 4 months ago. It's a 2001 Ford Focus SE (no mean comments please...I love my car) What could it be?? Do I need to get it to the shop?

Also, does anyone know a good (honest) mechanic in Riverside, CA?

Thank you so much in advance for any help.

I had an experience (hence all of the guardian angel questions) that really got me to thinking. I was extremely relaxed on my living room couch, the kids had gone to my Mom's for the weekend. I was watching Nick At Nite and not in a rush to do anything. I suddenly felt this sort of "warmth" all over and around me. I had been thinking about my deceased grandmother, uncle, and mother in law. I also had a feeling that I can't describe, just a very peaceful and grateful feeling. It was so strong it made me shed a few tears against my will.

What would you describe this as? I don't normally believe in these things and quite honestly think I'm going crazy, but my mother seems to think something genuine happened and is a huge believer in this.

It just occurred to me a little while ago that I hadn't deleted temporary and cached files on my computer in a long time, but I wanted to make sure I had copies of certain documents first so I did a search for all files called "temporary." Well, that pulled up a list of more than a hundred file folders with "temporary" in the folder name, but as you can figure it's going to be a pain to go through each individual folder. It's been a long time since I've searched for ONLY temporary files, and so I'm spinning my wheels trying to figure this out. How can I get a list of all of the temp files, not just the folders containing them? I'm using Windows XP.

Also, how can I search the cache in Firefox for files as well before I clear out the history?
