Lifestyle changes can help you control and prevent high blood pressure — even if you're taking blood pressure medication. Here's what you can do:

* Eat healthy foods. Try the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet, which emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy foods. Get plenty of potassium, which can help prevent and control high blood pressure. Eat less saturated fat and total fat. Limit the amount of sodium in your diet. Although 2,400 milligrams (mg) of sodium a day is the current limit for otherwise healthy adults, limiting sodium intake to 1,500 mg a day will have a more dramatic effect on your blood pressure.
* Maintain a healthy weight. If you're overweight, losing even 5 pounds can lower your blood pressure.
* Increase physical activity. Regular physical activity can help lower your blood pressure and keep your weight under control. Strive for at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day.
* Limit alcohol. Even if you're healthy, alcohol can raise your blood pressure. If you choose to drink alcohol, do so in moderation — up to one drink a day for women, two drinks a day for men.
* Don't smoke. Tobacco injures blood vessel walls and speeds up the process of hardening of the arteries. If you smoke, ask your doctor to help you quit.
* Manage stress. Reduce stress as much as possible. Practice healthy coping techniques, such as muscle relaxation and deep breathing. Getting plenty of sleep can help, too.
* Practice slow, deep breathing. Do it on your own or try device-guided paced breathing. In various clinical trials, regular use of Resperate — an over-the-counter device approved by the Food and Drug Administration to analyze breathing patterns and help guide inhalation and exhalation — significantly lowered blood pressure.

I have Type 2 w/ insulin injections. Lowering the sodium levels is essential to both problems. Lots of fresh, unprocessed vegetables and fruits. For the blood pressure, medication has been prescribed. Check with your pharmacist first to check for drug interactions. Then you could try nutmeg, ground and a pinch place under the tongue to dissolve. Also drinking vinegar will thin the blood and reduce the pressure. Both these remedies are natural, but taste awful. You must consult your doctor or pharmacist before adding anything as it might either lesson or strengthen a particular medication.

There are many causes of high blood pressure so identifying what could be causing yours is the first thing you need to do and try and rectify the problem.

Are you stressed easy? Try different ways of coping and relaxing.

Are you eating too much acidic food or dehydrated? Your body needs to be slightly alkaline, cut down on meat, bread, sugar, cereals, rice and potatoes, eat more fruit and vegetables and drink plenty of water.

Do you have a sedentary lifestyle? Incorporate some ways of getting exercise. Try using public transport instead of the car. Get off a few stops before your destinations and walk the rest. Get the records on and have a good old dance!

Do you smoke? You need to quit the habit.

Do you drink? Keep it moderate.

Try and get at least 7-8 hours sleep each night.

We also are lacking the minerals we need for our bodies to function properly. The soils are depleted of them so even if we eat good food it doesn`t contain enough nutrients to maintain good health. Supplementing the diet is the only way to make sure we are getting enough.

Blood pressure often increases as weight increases. Being overweight also can cause disrupted breathing while you sleep , which further raises your blood pressure. Weight loss is one of the most effective lifestyle changes for controlling blood pressure. Losing just 10 pounds can help reduce your blood pressure. Besides shedding pounds, you generally should also keep an eye on your waistline. Carrying too much weight around your waist can put you at greater risk of high blood pressure.

The only way to reduce high blood pressure is to get your weight down to a normal range, exercise a minimum of 30 minutes daily - enough to keep your heart rate elevated for 30 minutes (walking is easiest - start slow then gradually increase your distance and pace) and eating a healthy diet of fresh fruits and vegetables (both raw and cooked), small amounts of chicken or fish, skim milk and yogurt, whole grain breads and cereals and lots of water. Within about 2-3 months of doing this, weight will come off and your blood pressure will go down.

The natural way to help blood pressure, not exactly cure it ,is to learn to be placid and to relax as much as possible.
Modern life is stressful, aggravating high blood pressure, try to go with the flow, don't sweat the small stuff and avoid getting worked up over trivialities.

There are things you can do, diet and exercise, eat healthily, get fit, etc., but if it's really high - and it is for some people (like me) - no fault of my own - you need some meds. Work with your Doctor - try to improve your diet, get fit, but if it's not working, you're going to need some meds. There's no shame in it, that's just your body's chemistry. Avoid it if you can, but accept it if you must.

All I can add,is to try some deep breathing, as well. Breathe in to the count of four, breathe out to the count of 8. The Dash diet i is recommended, which will reduce your sodium intake, or use herbs to flavor, instead of salt. If you have a at home B/P monitor you can monitor and see you own progress

Yes, brisk 40-50 minutes walk daily, and reduce salt intake.
