So....I just moved to Riverside, CA...and of course, my car starts making a funny sound. I was hoping someone could tell me what it might be? I believe it's coming from the passenger side front wheel (?)...and it sounds like a ticking. It's not very loud....and it doesn't sound like the clicking that wheels make when your CV joints start to go bad. It gets worse when I go over bumps (but it does not get worse when I turn). it started about 2 weeks ago...and barely did it when I went over a bump, and now it does it all the time. I had the sway bar replaced, and the bushing replaced about 4 months ago. It's a 2001 Ford Focus SE (no mean comments please...I love my car) What could it be?? Do I need to get it to the shop?

Also, does anyone know a good (honest) mechanic in Riverside, CA?

Thank you so much in advance for any help.

It's not a squeal, like bad brakes, and tt doesn't happen when I step on the brakes...only when I go over bumps. Could it still be the brakes?

Could be a cracked coil spring. There's a silent recall on those if you're under a certain mileage, ie, Ford will fix it free if you *****. Call or go to a dealer with your vin#, and they can print out a list of recalls for your vehicle. There'll be a lot of 'em for a Focus. I don't understand why its not a full blown recall, cause those things could take a tire off if they fail at speed.

BOTH of them failed on my wife's 2000 at around 55K miles. I found out about the silent recall AFTER I fixed them myself.

====
Note to Cecil: I fixed them myself because I was tired of fixing other things the dealer messed up while attempting warranty repairs..... and there have been a LOT of them.

edit2: You should be able to see a cracked spring for yourself if you can jack the car up, possibly without taking the wheel off.

------
edit3: and yes, it did make a kind of klicking, crunching sound from the broken ends of the spring rubbing against each other.

If you don't know of any reputable mechanics, I would suggest the Ford dealership. At least with them you have some recourse if things go bad, and it's really not much more expensive in the long run. I have no experience with a Ford, sorry I can't help you in that area. Good Luck with it, and Merry Christmas!

Does the sound happen as quickly as you first start up up the motor vehicle and enable it warmth up or does it persist even after its been pushed a whilst? seems such as you have an inclination or broken lifter or carbon develop in between the cylinders. First attempt this. bypass to an motor vehicle components keep consisting of develop motor vehicle and purchase a can of sea foam. destructive a million/2 of the can into the engine as in case you have been changing the oil. After a hundred miles you could correct right here no longer something. If the challenge persists, have the motor vehicle serviced. in case you enable it gor for too long you will lose your engine. believe me, its how my truck misplaced its motor.

i go along with trapperj. it sounds like the metal part of your break pad is hitting the rotor which it is designed to do to let you know you need new brake pads. good luck and merry Christmas.

One or more bushings is worn out, strut mount bushings, sway bar link bushings, sway bar bushings....too many to list.

Find a mechanic to at least get it on a lift, find out what they say, and how much to fix, then figure it out from there.
