I have just been reading this fascinating book about all the famous explorers like Columbus, Magalhaes, James Cook. It was really astonishing to read all the hardship people on those ships had to go through at that time. It took Magalhaes 3 months to get from Miss Horn to Mariana Islands without seeng a land. James Cook spend 8 months traveling from England to Tahiti and that was in the mid 18th century. Doesn anyone here have any nautical skills or experience and can give me examples of how long modern days ship journeys take? E.g. cross Atlantic trips or trips from Europe to Asia on a ship. Any comparisons with the journeys I mentioned?

Why do I bother emailing my CV to recruitment agencies with covering letters, to apply for jobs, only to be ignored and never even recieve an acknowledgement?

I have to wonder why I'm wasting my time here ..... I'm a good candidate, I have experience in the field that I'm applying for, I have a well written CV and covering letter.

So what's missing?

Maybe I should just become dole scrounger as they seem to have more luck than me right now!

Miscommunication


A judge was interviewing a woman regarding her pending divorce, and asked, 'What are the grounds for your divorce?'

She replied, 'About four acres and a nice little home in the middle of the property with a stream running by.'

'No,' he said, 'I mean what is the foundation of this case?'

'It is made of concrete, brick and mortar,' she responded.

'I mean,' he continued, 'What are your relations like?'

'I have an aunt and uncle living here in town, and so do my husband's parents.'

He said, 'Do you have a real grudge?'

'No,' she replied, 'We have a two-car carport and have never really needed one.'

'Please,' he tried again, 'is there any infidelity in your marriage?'

'Yes, both my son and daughter have stereo sets. We don't necessarily like the music, but the answer to your questions is yes.'

'Ma'am, does your husband ever beat you up?'

'Yes,' she responded, 'about twice a week he gets up earlier than I do.'

Finally, in frustration, the judge asked, 'Lady, why do you want a divorce?'

'Oh, I don't want a divorce,' she replied. 'I've never wanted a divorce. My husband does. He said he can't communicate with me!!'

My husband and I have custody of our two grandchildren, and have had them since February, and we are going to file them on our income tax. The trouble is that their parents let the other grandparents file them last year and feel that they are going to try to do it again this year. What is the earliest date that we can file our taxes so that no one else can claim them?

3 weeks ago I was fired from my job. The reason they gave me was I just didn't fit in, and I was on a 90 day probation period. Now I would have believed the probation thing had they not had me get my pharmacy certification within my first 30 days. I've had a couple of people check the computer system at the company's home office, and they found no bad things against me.....no customer, or employee complaints. SO home office also thinks there is no reasonable explaination for my termination. Yesterday I went to pick up my final check to find out that "someone" had accidently picked up my check and cashed it. My paystub was in a sealed envelope, my name and social security number written on the front, my pay stub and cash inside this envelope. If for any reason that enevelope had been dropped, I could have lost a lot of things from 1 so called mistake. I know that you can't just accidentally give out a paystub, seeing that you have to sign for it to pick it up. Do I sue?

Under all the immense pressure he is under not to do it or to at least hold a referendum why is he going ahead with it when it could potentially ruin his political career?

What other forces or motives are pushing him into this corner?

Has this affected your vote? This has swung it for me and I will NEVER be voting for him, although I would have.
