It seems to me that in these times of extreme sectarian violence, that no head of any religious group is big enough to step forward, forget their differences and find a way to stop this lunacy.Any takers?

Most established religions do not have formal heads. but assuming Religious leaders of every known religion will get together for a purpose of joint decisions, this meeting is bound to end up in a fight on many issues, the first of which would be who is entitled to participate, and the second would be the sitting order in these meetings.

I disagree with you. The religions at the instant are not doing the condemning that's the cultures and the governments making use of their interpretations of religion to accomplish that. Any repression of sexuality or any violence is the effect of a individual or persons that twist the religion to extra healthy their desires. there isn't a faith accessible that demands repression or condones violence.

Should clergymen have been faithful to their respective religions, they would never have resorted to develop sects based on their respective school-of-thoughts.
Its clergymen who have corrupted religions of God All-mighty & they will surely be stood answerable to it, on day!
It is for us to have personally kept an open mind towards other school-of-thoughts in the same religion or for other religions. As a decent person, we must provide space & forbearance and should understand that different faith(s) does not mean that our ideologies are at stake.
Humanitarianism is the offshoot of the religions that is cultivating peaceful thoughts – Who has begotten more Atheists than the clergymen (of any faith)? It is all the silent protest by all those peaceful people who do not want to use religion for their ulterior motives! In fact, they are purer than the believer is, most of the time.
Peace!

The trouble is, even if they condemn violence, they often cause it (perhaps indirectly). For example, the Pope's opposition to contraception has contributed to overpopulation which has been a factor in wars in places like Darfur.
Besides, what would they say? "Don't use violence or you'll go to hell"? Using the threat of violence to try to end violence seems a bit hypocritical.

The heads of all the different religions, are all the same small group of people, all controlling all the different religions, and governments.
They won't condemn violence because they need to create it.

Religion is about power and money. Just like war.
It's generally against their interests to do this

Islam wouldn't. Their religion says to kill or smother those who don't convert. Plus, very few religions have a leader.
